Once upon a time, they had valid meaning.

But they have been so misused over the past decade they are now utterly meaningless buzzwords. It's safe to assume that anyone still using them in 2024 isn't interested in talking to another human being, they're just trying to score points for their own ego.

I do not think it is an effective predictor of really any of the actual qualities that make for fruitful relationships, even outside romantic life. It’s more about having complementary personality types and generally being responsible sane people, which is completely indiscriminate of taste or interests.

Reality sucks. As an atheist, I admit this, and the often poor mental health of non-delusional people (atheists) is a testament to this fact.
But cucking to the people who run this world won't give you a better life after death. It's up to us, not God, to fix things.

      this is a contradiction
"QoL was negatively associated with illness severity and positively associated with functioning capacity"
"Both delusions and hallucinations were significantly associated with lower QoL"
and anyway religion is not just a deterrent for your mental illness but actually can be a better cure than secular methods
"there are several randomized clinical trials already completed that demonstrate benefit using religious or spiritually integrated psychotherapies for depression"
      >But cucking to the people who run this world won't give you a better life after death. It's up to us, not God, to fix things
the people who run this world don't care for religious principles so that's irrelevant, and I'm not aware of many faiths that don't place responsibility on the individual

The questions you’ve raised involve several broad and complex assumptions about atheists and their behaviors. Let’s break down and address each point separately:

    1. Self-Medication with Alcohol and Drugs: It’s not accurate to generalize that atheists as a group self-medicate with alcohol and drugs more than theists or any other group. Substance abuse can be found across all demographics, including religious and non-religious individuals. Various factors contribute to substance abuse, including personal, social, economic, and psychological elements, rather than purely religious belief or the lack thereof.

    2. Self-Destructive Practices (Tattoos, Piercings, Casual Sex): Describing tattoos, piercings, and casual sex as inherently self-destructive is subjective and culturally relative. Many people, including those who are religious, engage in these practices for personal, aesthetic, or cultural reasons. These behaviors are not exclusive to atheists and do not inherently indicate self-destructiveness. Personal choices in these areas are influenced by individual values, societal norms, and personal expression rather than solely by religious belief or atheism.

    3. Anger and Defensiveness: Anger and defensiveness can be reactions to being marginalized, misunderstood, or discriminated against. Atheists, like any minority group, may feel defensive if they frequently encounter negative stereotypes or prejudice. Moreover, people from all walks of life, regardless of their religious beliefs, can experience anger and defensiveness due to various personal and external factors.

    4. Value of Truth: Many atheists do emphasize the value of truth, particularly in terms of evidence-based reasoning and scientific understanding. However, valuing truth does not preclude them from experiencing the same range of human behaviors and emotions as anyone else. Truth-seeking and personal behavior are not mutually exclusive concepts.

It is essential to avoid sweeping generalizations about any group. Human behavior is complex and influenced by a myriad of factors including, but not limited to, personal experiences, cultural background, social environment, and individual psychology.
