I'm another ex-apple user. I bought a brand new m2 Macbook air 47 dayd ago. I bought apple care+. It started having issues. I sent it to Apple for repair. They said:
>unsupported repairs have been made to this Apple product so repair denied.
I never once repaired it. I never once opened it. Never ever buy an apple product! Dont let your loved ones buy Apple. They don't stand behind their warranties! $1200 down the toilet! First and last Apple product I'll ever buy!

sound stopped working. No I sent it to Apple in California on the 2nd and today is the 12th and I am on the phone with them and they said
      >unauthorized modifications were made and we will not be repairing it
I made no modifications, I am not even sure how one would go about doing that. I was like
      >seeing as I know Apple wont cover modifications or repairs if I even breathe funny on it, why would I modify it then send it in.
Been on the phone with Apple since 9am and its 1:18pm. I remember they came to my house to fix a PowerMac G5 back in the day after the water leaked inside it. Now they wont stand behind their products and its like pulling teeth to get them to do anything. Frick Apple. Selling my iPhone once its paid off, switching to Android, building a PC, and I will never touch Apple products as long as I live. If I am going to be dead in the water, I might as well save a few dollars in the process.

So to recap: I bought a Macbook from Apple.com and had it 37 days... and been without it for 10 days. Within 22 of the days I had it the sound stopped working. I live in NY state. This is how they treated me:
    >send it in and we will get it repaired and get it right back to you
    >sent a box
    >they received it within 3 days
    >"a technician is looking at your device" with no further updates
    >been stuck with just a phone and a Raspberry Pi 5 as my only computing
    >Been very patient about the situation.
    >Called today
    >sorry modifications were made to the device and we will not be covering it. If you have any further concerns or any questions, feel free to ask.
    >will you be sending it back to me?
    >if you have any concerns or questions feel free to ask.
    >so will I be getting it back at least?
    >please hold
    >on hold for 5 hours
    >get hung up on abruptly with no warning...
If this is the Apple experience, I want no part of it. I would have better spent the money by putting it in a pile and lighting it on fire, at least then I would be warm.

Imagine if they didn't send it back. You could actually sue them and win. Assuming you got proof of sending it in and being received by Apple.
Hope to god they don't send it back and frick around long enough for you to start a court case over it.

I think this is going to cost them more than it would if they had just repaired it. I have been watching their stock since I posted about it here and on X. Apple are becoming the company known for selling shoddy quality and refusing to stand behind their warranty. I will contact the news, I will post recorded phone conversations and pictures of the quality of the product they send back to me. I have video of me boxing it up and the quality I sent it in (mint brand new quality) etc. If they do it to me, they do it to others, but I am going to be as vocal about this as possible. I will reach out to as many sources as possible. I will make as much noise over this as possible. I will not shut up and I will not be silenced!

This is how Apple is these days. After Steve Jobs died, they went downhill and never recovered. Whatever you remember from Jobs era Apple died with him. If you dare question them, they will simply hang up on you. Glad its happening to normies now, maybe it will force some change.

I have an iPhone that I've literally only used for dev work, it basically only laid on my desk at the same place for its lifetime. The screen developed a black dot - I have a lot of Androids, some cheap, some expensive, some 15 years old - never once have I seen a screen destroy itself. I have 1 (one) iPhone and it has this issue. How does this company have a reputation for quality? I cannot understand

      Anonymous

Because people like you accept it and don't get loud enough in the right ways. You need to speak up about it and be persistent. "It's not worth my time" but the thing is, how many people will this keep happening to before someone like me speaks up?

      >I have a lot of Androids, some cheap, some expensive, some 15 years old - never once have I seen a screen destroy itself
it wasn't too uncommon for early OLED phones to get burn-in. nowadays it's definitely not as much of an issue though. my Redmi Note 10 Pro I bought on release almost 3 years ago is still in pristine condition and the screen is exactly like it was when I got it
      >How does this company have a reputation for quality
their devices actually used to be good, believe it or not. I absolutely loved the iPhones I had (3G, 4 and 4S iirc). funnily enough Steve Jobs died a few days before the 4S released and after that model everything went to shit. that's when I switched to Android

yeah I had a powermac g5, they sent a repair tech to my house to replace the leaky water cooler with an air cooler. I didnt have to send it to them. They came to my house and fixed it. Compared to today if you so much as sneeze on an Apple product
        >unauthorized modifications were made to the device, repair rejected!
        while in the same breath
        >we care about the environment!
They went from the best to the worst company on earth after Jobs died. They need to fire Tim Cook and get someone better in.

Yeah well I rub shoulders with some powerful people. It would have been cheaper to just repair the stupid thing. I could sue in small claims but I feel that going very public will do WAY more damage to them and their reputation will suffer for it as a result of their actions. People will be a bit more weary about buying Apple products, I promise you this. I might be one person but I am a very vocal one.

I remember keeping Macbook even after I switched to Android though. those didn't really evolve until the 2015 models with their shit keyboards released, so I had a 2012 MBP, which I sold a couple years later for a 2014 MBA on sale (sold it later on because 8GB unupgradable RAM and 1440x900 were pretty bad)
whatever released after that I didn't touch with a hundred feet pole. I tried Asus, Xiaomi, Thinkpads (they're unironically pretty good ngl), and now I have a MSI on Linux which I'll keep until I can afford the Tuxedo I want. I've had the MSI for 4 years and it's still running well

            Anonymous

At this point its not about affordability, its about them doing it to enough people that it finally happened to a public figure like me. When I called them and tried to talk to them and told them who I was, they didn't seem phased by it. How many soccer moms are they harming? How many kids get hurt by this? How many people who trust Apple, get their repairs rejected when instead of buying something else and its their last $1000 and they need a phone for work, they entrust Apple only to have to go through hell. Well it is high time this gets dragged into the light. They screwed the wrong person. The old saying is true "never mess with a millionaire's money, they are some of the most ruthless people that live". $1200 to me is like $12 to you, that's not the point. People like you who can only afford one thing at a time need to be heard. Enough is enough. Apple needs to be held accountable.
