I'm close to leaving Islam

I've grown very disillussioned with this religion so I'm looking for options. Christianity is appealing, but could someone please explain to me what's up with the Trinity? It's not that I necessarily hate it, but I really don't understand where it came from or how does it still count as monotheism. Any help would be appreciated.

If you're serious I recommend The Forgotten Trinity by James White. It's essentially intended as an introduction to Trinitarian theology, and it should be much more edifying than anything you'll get here. God bless.

In both cases it is haraam to stay in such gatherings and it is haraam to visit such websites, except for one who will object to what they do and is able to put a stop to these offences. If he is not able to do that, and those people carry on with what they are doing, then it is not permissible to remain in that gathering and it is not permissible to visit those websites.

The trinity is one of the most complicated concepts in Christianity so I wouldn't put too much stress into understanding it immediately just begin reading the Bible, start with the new testament then move back to the old and then re-read the new, also google stuff you don't understand obviously. Use King James version btw.

I think Saint Patrick used this metaphor.
It's like a clover. Each of the 3 leaves can move, photosynthesize, and grow at their own rates. They're still a part of an organism, though. It is still one being, just different parts. I'm probably butchering this, I'm sure he said it better

It's funny because whenever someone tries to explain the trinity they delve into ancient heresies

The analogy is that in both the case of calling things "problematic" and in calling things a "heresy," it's a thought-terminating effort. It's as though you think you can call something a heresy and, in doing so, invalidate it, make it go away.

The Trinity consists of Three Persons of God. God is one. There is only one God, there is nothing else like Him.

There are many persons of humanity. There is one humanity. It is natural for human beings to have their persons bodily separate from other persons. That's how created biological organisms work at that scale.

An uncreated spirit that is whole and entire can have as many persons as it pleases without bodily separation into different spirits, because that is the nature of a transcendent eternal creator being.

Furthermore, God is Love. But the definitive attribute of Love is that it involves caring for somebody else other than yourself. In order for God to be able to be and express Love before the creative act, in the eternity outside of existence that "predated" time itself, it is necessary that God the Father have a Son to Love, and the Son to have a Father to Love. Since the nature of God is one, but can have a multitude of persons, owing to His nature, this Love can be expressed without the need of other gods.

      >An uncreated spirit that is whole and entire can have as many persons as it pleases without bodily separation into different spirits, because that is the nature of a transcendent eternal creator being.
then paganism is compatible? god can also be the infinite gods?

      >in the eternity outside of existence that "predated" time itself, it is necessary that God the Father have a Son to Love
okay the transcendant god could have just loved his own being. the son is completely unnecessary. and whats the deal with the holy spirit? seems even less necessary.

        Anonymous

        >then paganism is compatible? god can also be the infinite gods?
no, because the various "gods" are essentially distinct and incongruous with one another, as well as being explicitly created beings that came into existence after the universe was created
        >okay the transcendant god could have just loved his own being. the son is completely unnecessary.
loving oneself is egotism, literally selfishness, there cannot be true love - the altruistic desire for another person's well-being and happiness - without another person there that isn't the self

an imprecise illustration is as follows:
        >a human being loves his son
        >that selfsame son, who is a human being, loves his father
        >transitively, humanity loves, and is loved, without loving itself
but it must be understood that humanity (as a whole) is not congruent with God (as a whole), and the analogy is only figurative

        >but could someone please explain to me what's up with the Trinity?
Jesus, Yahweh, and the smell that Yahweh makes are all three separate entities that are made out of the same substance ("God").

        >I really don't understand where it came from
Jesus couldn't make up his mind as to whether he was Yahweh or Yahweh's son. Early Christians fell into three camps, and Trinitarianism was a compromise to keep them from killing eachother.

        >how does it still count as monotheism
There's only one divine substance, which we call God. Anything "made out of" this substance is called God. This is similar to how anything made out of oak is called "oak". Polytheism would be believing that there are things made out of multiple different substances that are worshiped (Aristotle believed that there were 47-55 Gods who were the Olympians of Hesiod and Homer and each of them was made out of a different substance).

There has to be Jesus because Yahweh cursed humanity and then made the israelites his Chosen Tribe. Jesus had to be born, and he has to have both a human and divine nature (the divine nature is "made out of God") in order to die and therefore cleanse humanity of Original Sin (we still have it but now gentiles can be resurrected at the Day of Judgement instead of just going straight to hell). He had to have a human nature in order to be able to sin so that his divine nature could choose not to sin, hence why he has to have two natures. If Yahweh didn't give Jesus a human body (he didn't make Jesus as Jesus has always existed) then he couldn't have done this.

The Holy Spirit is there because certain lines by Jesus imply that it's a separate entity from him and his dad. It was viewed as a separate entity by some sects of early Christians and s such that belief was respected when the Trinity was concocted.

No one claims there is one oak tree.
anything being made of divine substance being called God would mean there's Gods, which is polytheism.

few understand its origin, but it's really simple if you just grow a pair of autistic balls and sever yourself from the group-think hive.
The trinity stems from Atlantic Moundbuilders,- brought to Egypt by Osiris the refugee whose "trinity" originated in Morocco - consisting of Osiris god of this realm, Neith the underworld god and Horus the sky god.
The hebrews stem from Iberia, which is why the Israelites,- converted into this trinitarian faith, became egyptian priests given land as a proxy for Joseph-leaning pharaohs and priesthoods.
An opposing priesthood however,- more local and worshipping Babi,- eventually became the Herods - an anti-Israel correctly called out for larping by Jesus who had studied in Egypt in secret before the last remnants of the first Israel got deleted by lingering anti-ptolemaic forces.

I might have an interesting perspective. I’m ex-gay returning to Christianity for its moral appeal. I was raised in church/Sunday school but my intelligence outgrew any answers coming from church lessons, so I began to reject religion. Now, I’m really intrigued to actually understand what the writers of the Bible were trying to say. Apologists and church fathers existed to answer these questions formally, so look into those. Supersessionism is one of those “questions,” an interesting and relevant one right now. Regardless of that, I feel a duty to myself to be able to understand concepts in common sense terms as well. In terms of the Trinity, I actually find value in having a dumbed down explanation in childhood that stuck with me. It’s pretty simple to understand, you’ll just have to get past the engrained heresy that Yeshua couldn’t be God because there’s only one God.

God literally decided to become human, so he did. Yeshua acted out God being human. He is the Son. The Father was the one who had the authority to decide to send the Son. The Holy Spirit is the overall essence and function that encapsulates the consciousness of God. They all exist as the three ways in which God is presented to us humans, they’re all God. The cool thing is we were made in God’s image, so the human form of God (Yeshua) always existed all along, he just happened to show up in the flesh ~2000 years ago to act out how his creation was meant to live according to the law. Just open up your mind to the idea that God being one and only doesn’t limit how he can express himself to his creation. What He is is beyond comprehension, but the Trinity encapsulates the ways in which we’ve been able to commune with Him.

    three persons in one being.
all persons each are God, not parts of God or three Gods.
the three persons of God are the same, but in relation to each other they are distinct.

we can say there are relationships in God.

This is my favorite analogy, you are your body, you are your brain, but at the same time you are your soul too, your soul and your body are the same because they are both you, not parts of you, so they are the same nature, but they are stil distinct, when your brain dies, you are essentially still alive, because your soul is you.

So your body and soul are in relation to each other distinct because your body affects you soul, and your soul effects your body, even though they are both you.
the main difference with trinity is that the three persons are eternal, but the body dies at some point even if it will rise again in the day of the judgement.

This is how I view it as someone who struggled with deciding between unitarian or trinitarian Christianity. In trinitarian Christianity Jesus is God incarnate. God is infinite, and unlimited, but when he incarnated as Jesus he became flesh and limited himself while he was on earth. Then he ascended back up to heaven.

try researching Orthodoxy, it's the only way. Protestantism/Catholicism were created by men only a few hundred years ago, whereas Orthodoxy originates from the Creator. In fact there are many books taken out of the Bible that modern day "Christians" have no idea about.

The legitimacy of Orthodoxy over all the rest of Christendom rests on a single verse from the Bible, one that you deliberately misinterpret to mean that The Church is not all of Christendom with all its sectarian disagreements, but your institution specifically, and everything that institution makes up, even as it contradicts the rest of scripture, forever. From this verse, you incorrectly extrapolate that Orthodox and only Orthodox get to decide what is and is not scripture, who is and is not a prophet, what is and is not doctrine. Worse, you argue that you're not even bound by the text of the scripture your very institution canonizes, and that your institution's "traditions" literally override what you claim is the undiluted Word of God.

Orthodoxy is a compelling memeplex but that's all it is.

Massive unearned ego on you. There is no such thing as "claim smarter", if you cant tell that means youre stupid.

    >could someone please explain to me what's up with the Trinity?
OP, don't feel bad if it's hard to grasp. People have been debating exactly on how the trinity works for two thousand years now.

Christians really shot themselves in the foot when they came up with a pagan concept like the Holy Trinity to have an excuse to worship the more charismatic Jesus instead of the israeli war god and then called all possible explanations heresies.

Trinity is not Christian, the Gospels consistently refer to the God and Jesus as different 2 beings. The Prophets of the Old Testament never believed that the Messiah would be God either

Check out NDEs, they are unironically irrefutable proof that heaven really is awaiting us because (1) people see things during their NDEs when they are out their bodies that they should not be able to under the assumption that the brain creates consciousness, and (2) anyone can have an NDE and everyone is convinced by it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U00ibBGZp7o

So any atheist would be too, so pic related is literally irrefutable proof of life after death. As one NDEr pointed out:

    >"I'm still trying to fit it in with this dream that I'm walking around in, in this world. The reality of the experience is undeniable. This world that we live in, this game that we play called life is almost a phantom in comparison to the reality of that."
