>Give him a simple task of fixing a bug in a function
>For some reason, he changes the entire signature of the function for no reason, breaking the API
>Explain to him what a function signature is and what an API is
>He looks at me confused
>'Okay I will change it to return double instead'
I just want to give up. I feel like this is extremely elementary stuff. He straight up doesn't understand how changing a functions signature can break an API. How the frick does he have a masters degree? This guy is making at least $150k or more too.

    I’ve worked with 3 Indians on the same team as me throughout my career and they were all very capable and knowledgeable. Well deserving of their 300k TC.
    2/3 of them were first generation from India as well
    What companies are you guys working for where these shit people are found?

      Not op but a smaller Healthcare company. Both our jeet and outsourced Mexican developers have been unbelievably bad. Somehow the Mexicans lie more and don't even try to make it believable.

      It's because you get what you pay for. I hope we aren't really so racist as to actually believe there's no good programmers in India? The problem is that anyone who can rub two bytes together gets the frick out of India ASAP. Then the reason "pajeets" are typically so bad is because when companies do it as a cost-saving measure, they're getting all the people who either couldn't do anything well enough to emigrate or have such low standards that they are ok with living in India.
      On the other hand, it's a country of over a billion people. There are going to be good programmers. They are going to know their worth and not accept being paid pennies by US corporations to be a second class citizen in the company. They'll move to SF or Seattle and work for gayMAN.

      1. New grad Indian hired on an OPT visa. Been working with them over 5 years and they still ask basic questions daily about syntax, basic command line syntax, etc.
      2. Indian with >10 years at the company and >20 YOE total who is the perpetual motion machine of software engineers. Dude literally creates a major bug each time he delivers a feature, and most of his tickets are cleaning up messes he created while working on other tickets.
      3. Entire team of Indians in India who constantly break and shit up the software. Pulling from the upstream branch is a terrifying experience because something will literally always break.

      It's hard to come up with any good stories because it's a constant slog of stupidity and unprofessionalism. It's more of a miasma of stink than a specific story I can recount. I've worked with some smart Indians before but these people are incredibly incompetent on average.

      I work at a big company and these people are all making serious money.

      I had a streak of being in an hour+ call with the same guy on the India team every day for two weeks when the solution was always the fricking documentation I linked him
      I had a call recently where it took him several minutes to get to his home directory in either explorer or in bash
