iPad will replace MacBooks

We all know it's going to happen at some point...

...just not when.

I'm not talking about just iPad though, laptops in general won't last long, tablets will overtake them and make them obsolete aswell.

I mean, technically it's been easy possible since A12X but Apple is clearly not willing to make macOS touch friendly. MS doesn't care about the experience too much and should have the right hardware for it in a year or two.

It'll happen when Tim Apple finally takes the stick out of his ass and puts macOS on the thing.
Until then it'll remain a toy you use to distract distract toddlers.

Just got my Apple ipad m4. First time apple user. What apps do I download to make myself at home bros? Any cool media library/video player apps so I can watch my movies on it locally?

Draw Things is pretty cool, if you're into that. Infuse is comfy to stream shit from your network or play videos locally. Moonlight if you want to stream gayms.

At that point, portables will be exclusively for homosexuals.

A lot of troon devs work on macos because it has a unix-like shell and all that mess without the hassle of setting up a linux env that works for you.

designers i can see being migrated to ipad over time

The moment when Apple releases a new product line that combines MacBook and iPads...
    >Detachable iPad screen with all the core Apple Pencil functionality to it
    >MacOS with Face ID integration
    >The keyboard now houses all the important parts of a MacBook so if screen dies then the "iPad" gets replaced, and if the SSD fricks up, then the "keyboard" gets replaced
    >iPad+MacBook combo now also has a back camera because of this config
    >Insane performance because of two M69 chips in this b***h
    >$4,999 for the base model where charger, box, and sticker not included
All iToddlers and me myself included will cum uncontrollably all over the place when this gets announced and like usual and/g/eets will claim that this is nothing revolutionary since Surface Pro already did this bajillion years ago.

Or they could just give iPadOS dev mode that lets you install macOS apps. Hell, they could couple it to a paid dev account.

    Good!
    Laptops are an ergonomic nightmare.
I can't wait for 13"-17" tablets with laptop specs.

I think Samsung's got a 14' tablet right now, the Ultra model of their S9, though I've never seen a tablet with 17', maybe it exists, just not popular.

I'm getting a Galaxy Tab A9 Plus, so what am I in for? I want to give tablets a try and it looks nice for the price... it's got no S-Pen support, nor any HDMI output, will a capacitive stylus and screen mirroring through a Chromecast work out fine?

I feel like I might regret this, but I want to give tablets a fair chance for once, maybe it's good.

That's absolutely beyond fricking stupid, why not just go with an s6 lite, or for that matter a kamvas 13 or something else? Are you moronic?

I like the S6 Lite, but where I live it's double the price of the A9 Plus currently, so too expensive.

I'm sort of moronic though, I'll admit on that.

Yeah ok, also is this another brazil thing? I live in another different 3rd world shithole and it's not that bad for the s6 lite

Yup, Brazil. I think we have some of the highest taxes over products and consumption in all the world, and both our currency and economy isn't going too good, the A9 Plus' actually cheaper if compared to how much it could cost if I simply converted the price from US$ to R$, the S6 Lite though is a bit more of a true conversion so it's more difficult, and I want to spend little at first.

I'm racist when it comes to buying Chinese products. I think they're often good for the prices and specifications, but overall they're rarely my 1st choice, also Samsung's just what the last few years of my life have had, its simply familiar, things like OneUI especially, which I like.

The cheaper android tablets are kinda not worth it in my experience (I had a galaxy tab a note and then an s6 lite 1st gen, both kinda sluggish to multitask or any complex task), except maybe if you just need to play some youtube, light browsing and read some pdf in a semi portable way. I currently have an m2 ipad pro (got in in the gray market since it's the only way to get apple stuff in brazil) and it is a much better experience but in the end it's one of the most superfluous device I own. So if money is an issue (and with brazil prices it always is) I'd recommend just getting a nice portable notebook or a better phone (and maybe a kindle).

The thing holding all of this back for a decade has been the software, and at first, and for many to this day, it remains its saving grace. Hence why this issue wont fricking die. Its the most interesting thing going on in consumer computing hardware and its taking for fricking ever to get a conclusion. MacOS on the iPad ain't the answer. It's more of a recent topic & for good reason. Apple Silicon being used in Mac's and iPads, for one, and Vision Pro coming out with a big, easy win with the mac display support, and we have been scrounging for that functionality on iPadOS for how long? I understand how it feels like a slap to the face, and implementing the same feature for iPad is an easy conclusion. The hard thing about the ipad is that its really, really good at being limited. Thin, light tablets with efficient & performant chips hit mass market a decade ago. An OS that can properly take advantage of it? Maybe a decade away at the pace Apple is going.

Microsoft certainly don't have any interest in pushing Windows forward with how they've crippled ARM adoption. Its now designed as a metoo OS that exists to maintain what remains of Windows dominance and to serve ads. Android doesn't have an out for better, big screen oriented software so it will remain in no mans land for as long as I can see. No reason for devs to invest in a sliver of a sliver of a population unwilling to pay for software. There are so many legacy models that rely on precise inputs being available at all times. The iPad is GOOD because it treats apps the same ways the user treats them: they don't work unless we're looking at them, with few exceptions, and that means your work always has the priority and full power of the device. Conversely, the legacy models allow for resource sharing to the detriment of the user experience. The exact opposite of the philosophy that provides the iOS experience that people want. That sure as hell doesn't explain all of the other immaturities of a $2K pro tablet OS, but it is a core issue that Apple is compelled to keep in mind. I rather they double down on this third-rail tablet OS that itself can be as modular as the hardware it is on.

Why can Apple only make iPhones of various sizes? iPad? Big iPhone. MacBook? iPhone w a keyboard. Apple watch? Tiny iPhone.
Holy shit they really have one thing going for them.
