Nobody is forcing you to eat it or even look at it, you caring about it is a personal problem that has nothing to do with anybody else.

That’s not entirely true. We do a Bible study potluck 3/4 fridays of the month and the host’s wife is some kind of pacific islander and in their culture it’s very offensive to decline things that are offered. I was trying to decline taking this entire cake but she was getting pissed off so I ended up practically having to take it home. Last week I was offered a whole apple pie. I live alone and they must know this. What am I going to do with an entire cake besides eat the whole thing?Last night was 1 month since my baptism so they have me a whole basket of candy. Also we do fellowships all the time and all anyone brings is pizza hut and soda and cookies.

I just think it’s ironic because we just had a sermon about how one beer is never just one beer, and how even though my pastor isn’t an alcoholic, he refuses to drink because he doesn’t want to be the cause of anybody to stumble, yet I’m pretty outspoken about my sugar addiction to anybody I’ve spoken to. Seems hypocritical to constantly tempt people like me and for some reason draw the line at beer because it contains like 3% alcohol by volume.
Like my choice right now is either be saved or become morbidly obese and get type 2 diabetes.

Another critical thing is that indulging in one addiction makes me slide on all my other vices. I binge on sugar a couple times and pretty soon I’m eating mostly fast food, my spending gets out of control and I’m watching pornography, etc. Then I find myself depressed and unable to get out of bed, sleeping 12 hours out of the day, not able to get anything done.

I feel worse being a “Christian” than I felt being alone just trying to work on myself.

Why should the burden be on me to control myself? Why should I be forced to take it in the first place? The church doesn’t allow alcohol, tobacco or drugs; why should sugary foods be exempt? Just because it’s not intoxicating? Sugar addiction is real and if you do brain scans, it’s proven to have the same effects on your brain as cocaine does.

Just to add to this, with the obesity-related disease in this country like heart disease being some of the leading causes of death, I’d argue it’s even more destructive than alcohol or cigarettes.

Anon, something you have to realize in life is that most people are selfish, insufferable morons. What that woman is doing is NOT being generous, even though that's what she's telling herself. She is being very selfish and acting like a narcissistic butthole. The feeling of being a "good person" is more important to her than how you actually feel and how what she's doing is affecting you. I've known many people like this, both my mom and grandma were exactly the same. They would try yo force me to eat and act buttblasted when I refused, even after explaining many times that I was trying to lose weight and be healthy. That didn't matter to them, they just wanted to feel good by forcing food on me. I assume the people in your study group are also fat, considering their diet? They probably subconsciously don't want you to succeed and become "better than them" in their minds, and they probably don't even realize they feel this way.

Now, you can try to reason with her and calmly explain what I was saying earlier, telling her that what she's doing is actually selfish. If you think she's going to listen. I'd give it maybe a 5% chance of success. More than likely, she's going to get asshurt and start shit talking you behind your back. What I would suggest instead is to either just start being a c**t right back to her until she knocks it off, or else avoid her entirely and stop going to the Bible study. But since the Bible study seems so important to you, this puts you in a difficult position. So your only real option is to outright refuse, be very stern, say no over and over, and be a dick right back to her when she starts getting uppity. You can give her the explanation about being selfish one time to give her a chance, and then just start being a dick from then on when she gets pushy about the food. Either way, it's going to be a massive pain in the ass, especially since you've already given in so she knows being a b***h works on you.

You need to pull them aside and have a serious conversation about this. I'm sure they'll understand. If they don't, then you have every moral right to leave that church (hopefully find a different one).

The world isn't going to bend around your addictions. Having a sugar addiction is about the weakest thing I have ever read

          Anonymous

The only reason people are overweight or obese is because of sugar and simple carbs. 70 percent of Americans are overweight and 36 percent are obese. What you are saying is that 70 percent of Americans are weak, or perhaps what I’m saying is that there’s something wrong with the food culture in this country and that needs to change. Most people can’t just practice “self-control” when it comes to some of the most primal stimuli.

            Anonymous

The weakness is thinking that since you don't have self control, the church needs to get rid of donuts. The world doesn't need to placate you because you can't just need a donut. It's literally saying "I can't help myself around donuts, so no one should have donuts". That's weak

            Anonymous

The issue isn't the donuts being there, the issue is them forcing him to take the donuts, cakes, pies, etc. that they push on him. How about you try reading before offering your worthless opinions, fatso?

You can think it's "weak" or whatever you want, nobody gives a shit. The real question is why you feel the need to force food on someone who doesn't want it. Because that's a (You) problem and seems pretty damn weak to me. You're addicted to the dopamine you get from giving shit to people and force it on them even if they don't want it. Explain why you think that's okay.

Exactly my thinking. Part of this church is the fellowship so we’re always doing events outside church in addition to the 5 or 6 church functions per week and there’s always cookies, donuts, cake and soda at all these events. It’s like no one there even eats real food.

This is usually a Protestant tactic to get prospective members to feel comfortable at their church. Same reason why every megachurch has a coffee bar now. When you think all you have to do is pray a prayer to be saved, there's no need to take care of your body. See: obesity and smoking rates in the American south.

Protests build their community around the church. That's how you get to know people. It's not about walking in, consuming the holy wafer and then going home without talking to anyone.

I hate how people who otherwise aspire for a higher moral standard double down on vices not outright banned by their adopted moral framework. Like atheists who become irreligious because of their perceived immorality of religious people but who become lax on sexual degeneracy like pornography or LGBT shit. Or like those hosts from a popular Catholic talk show who will defend morals but otherwise brag about consuming alcohol and cigars. Likewise with OP's issue. We need to be better than this. I hate sexual degeneracy. I hate pornography. I hate goyslop and obesity. I hate drugs and alcohol. I hate anime, video games and hollywood. I hate the government. Revolt against the modern world.

If churches handed out protein shakes, do you really think their obese boomer congregations would be happy about that? Almost no young, healthy, health-conscious people attend church, it's all old fat people, so they're just catering to their audience.
