Yes, mac os is absolute dogshit compared to windows.
I mean, mac os is the best Unix os available, but it still feels like a toy for anyone who actually wants to do some actual work.

I fricking hate pressing Undo or Redo on MacBooks since the ergonomics were so terrible so I had to swap fn/globe to cmd. Then there's also the fact that you had to press cmd in order to delete otherwise it would've been just backspace. Other than that most of the keyboard experience have been alright.

Stop trying to use your pinky for command. You're supposed to press it with your thumb. That's why it's right next to the space bar.

Usable. They stopped using the stupid butterfly keyboard switch design a few years ago and now you don't have to fear your keyboard turning unusable by a single speck of dust.

That's really a Microsoft thing rather than an Apple thing. If MS wanted they could ship an Apple Silicon version of Windows. They just don't see it as a priority, for understandable reasons.

Hi, I bit the bullet and got an M1 a few years ago.
    Pros:
    >Getting software development tools set up is easy. Install iTerm2, Brew, your favorite code editor, and you're good to go.
    >Very good sleep mode. You can just close it and open it up five days later having lost no charge and get right back into whatever you were doing.
    >Power efficiency is good, full charge lasts for 2.5 workdays of screen on, half brightness, bluetooth headphones connected, listening to music, and programming.
    >The touchpad is miles above any other laptop I've ever used. Navigation, clicking, and scrolling all feel natural and frictionless.
    Cons:
    >You have to get used to the way it manages windows. No such thing as a "maximized" window, only windows resized to take up the available space OR fullscreen window workspaces. It's OK when you get used to it.
    >"Air" models have no active cooling and WILL thermal throttle in warm weather and intensive applications.
    >You can buy a battery replacement after the battery inevitably decays after years of use (like with any computer) but the replacement process isn't as straightforward as other laptops.
Use this data and make an informed decision. good luck Anon.

When I was an Android developer on the 3.x-8.x days, MacOS was strangely the best dev platform. On Windows you had to install drivers for every Android device. On Linux you could set up a universal driver but it required a little editing of config files. MacOS just worked.

thats what he said. Linux is superior to macOS on the server but otherwise not really. macOS has amazing compatibility on top of being UNIX and having things like a package manager. Its more similar to Linux in using it than people might realize.

    >no window snapping in 2024
Yeah it’s trash, you have to use/pay for third party jeetware to get window snapping. Also if you want to maximize a program to use the entire screen (not full screen) you have to drag the window manually. The maximize button on windows makes things full screen so you lose access to the menu bar

Rectangle is free, if you actually need window snapping
      >Also if you want to maximize a program to use the entire screen (not full screen) you have to drag the window manually.
No, you double click the title bar
      >The maximize button on windows makes things full screen so you lose access to the menu bar
Theres a toggle for that in Settings

Believe it or not, both macOS and Windows are great for pretty much anything*. If you want an energy efficient computer then Mac is the best choice currently, but that might change this year if the promises of Qualcomm are true. MacOS is MUCH less annoying than Windows and doesnt have ads, but you might need some third party software if you workflow doesnt fit their system. (That is also true for Windows imo, but yeah)

*macOS cannot(!) do gaming. You can try and theres even some native AAA games, but its not an option if you actually want to play many games.

additionally, macOS has the (slight) upper edge in creative (better support), programming (UNIX based) and software quality but in return sucks in terms of gaming.
