is there any reason to use google search at this point?

with the recent ChatGPT update, it searches the web for answers to your question when it doesnt have an answer on hand and provides sources for its response
it was already useful as a defacto search engine before but now that it provides links I may as well just use it over google most of the time

I use it as a math tutor for my Calc II class, and it's far and away better at explaining concepts/working through a problem than my actual professor. it will dominate the next 100 years, mark my words.

I'm not sure how this will go
the old one would refuse to summarize urls I fed it all the time because the site owner blocked them in robots.txt
I'm sure they will have a different useragent for the crawler but anyone who would block one would probably block all

i assume it will be similar to: https://www.perplexity.ai/
and will counter the problems you described, by being a normal search engine at its core
openai loves using african and wagie slaves to curate things for their ai, so i assume restrictions might not affect it at the same level as the old bing powered one

    >with the recent chatgpt update
Perplexity AI has been doing this for nearly two years. It's not a new concept. And you're correct, there's no reason to use Google with ChatGPT powered searches, you get actual answers instead of a dozen pages of SEO spam on Google.

chatgpt offers superior AGI epistemiology in most fractal contexts. Personally, I find myself integrating it in my daily workflows for orthogonal productivity gains
Google is clearly over and everyone should sell their Google stock right now and purchase openAI stock in the secondary market

Because what Google search is still (un)fortunately good at is niche content discoverability, reverse image search and more importantly adult content. Even with Google seriously trying to frick up the only worthwhile thing their Search is still useful for, it still comes up ahead all the rest of the alternatives most of the time. Anything outside of those three things you don't even need Google anymore because everything else is found and discoverable on the other top websites.

AI Web search with reverse image search is probably just a few updates away, but niche content discoverability is hard because web crawling the whole internet is hard, and adult content is not a problem, but NA is a puritan shithole so it becomes a problem until someone else makes an AI Web search that for everything.

Chatgpt search will block any NSFW results though. Also if I'm specifically. At least google lets me search those things (for now).

no, but search engines won't die, they do things that chatbots can't (or are programmed not to)
