Before Adam Smith economics was part of Moral Philosophy so it is tied in with that.
Smith's job was to remove economics from this so the oligarchs could more easily abuse their people.

"capitalism" is the recognition of trade as an almost living entity with "life" being things that facilitate trade, like free trade, low taxes and fiscal responsibility and things that "kill" trade, like government embezzlement and money printing, war etc

This is why it's the only cohesive economic system in existence because it's simply observing reality.

Socialists would use this system to print money "for the public good", that's why socialism is literally "when the government does something" usually without proper representation (the Reichstag was 100% Nazi party).

Aristotle did write something about it, Xenophon wrote a book on it as well, some scholastics I believe did as well and they've kind of accidentally phrased some economic principles while scolding them for being immoral. Iirc Schumpeter wrote a book on history of economics that is sometimes bashed for paying too much attention to pre-modern economic thought but for your purposes it's perfect.

      >capitalism
There's no such thing. He never even used the term "capitalism" in his work, and no economics textbooks use that term either.

nta, but indeed 'capitalism' is just a negative designation by commies, the way everyone opposing the woke legbeards is a 'nazi'.
iow 'capitalism' is the default ground state. only aberrations need names.
