    AGI isn't even relevant.
If current models end up able to do all the work of today's office workers better, faster and cheaper then who cares if it's "general" or "intelligent"

Id argue that the average person isn't "intelligent"

      Good post.
95% of the time I use LLMs for monotonous crap... Writing executive summaries, translating json blobs into pydantic classes, creating json mappings from a to b... Things that are just slow tedious work that an idiot could do

        >Id argue that the average person isn't "intelligent"
That's true for both those seeking to profit from AI and those whose jobs are liable to be replaced by it. Artificial intelligence remains very different from human intelligence yet it's being used with the expectation that it can reliably and predictably generate accurate and precise human-like results, which is not the case, and certainly not without learning to prompt properly. Instead it generates mostly plausible results which often need modification and correction by human overseers, who still require expertise.

We have a tool in AI, maybe even a prosthesis, but we're still far from replacing people. The car may manage to drive itself most of the journey but you still need someone with a license behind the wheel.

Daily reminder that LLM isn't AI but just a database that can print fancy text. Real AI is only used by the military and few scientists.

the definition for what constitutes AI is completely arbitrary and is debased at the convenience of marketing teams. when a few lines of code in a videogame make an NPC walk back and forth, that's "AI", when a chatbot on AIM responds to your message that's "AI", when an LLM attempts to reproduce a picture that doesn't yet exist that's "AI", and so on. you can't reach AGI by extending LLMs because AGI is an insanely high standard for the distant future, the premise of which startups are intentionally leveraging for more venture capital money in hopes of producing a hit product and selling out ASAP before the bubble pops
