Aren't graphic cards mostly made by american companies (Nvidia, AMD and so on?)? Is the US putting tariffs on its own goods?

By american companies but in China. Making anything outside China is too expensive to be competitive.

Nvidia sells chips to AIBs, AIBs manufacture the actual boards according to a reference, and the AIBs get some kind of razor thin margin.
Most of the value in these boards is in the GPU and vram chips which come from Taiwan or South Korea which produce these based on American IP.
So, even if Chinese labor and materials adds 25% of the value of the product, American companies get hella paid even if Chinese dick eaters get to ook about ‘made in China’

Multiple high-grade chip fabs are also due to begin operating in the US as well. Completely domestic US production capability is obviously a geopolitically strategic decision (so no foreign country can use tech exports to blackmail/influence us) but I wonder if it will lead to lower prices as well, thanks to vertical supply/manufacturing lines and all that

Free market means I should as an end customer have access to the highest quality goods and services from every country who specializes in a specific niche so that I don't have to settle for inferior quality by being restricted to one zone that I live in. I don't give a shit about the economic zone I live in, all that matters is obtaining the highest quality and most affordable option, especially if it comes at the cost of fricking over my neighbor who is trying to sell me something worse than the best of its kind that I can purchase elsewhere.
If you want to be rewarded, then prove it through merit.
