And yet, they can afford to do it. Nobody forces them not to, they don't have regulations mandating your appliances be gimped on purpose in the name of green ideologies like in the EU. If you don't want to waste your money, just don't throw the food away, but at the end of the day, you can do whatever you want. This is the real difference between the EU and America.

why doesn't Canada have this... the reason I want it is because my cat is a trash monkey, and a smart one at that (she can open the garbage bin), and she loves eating stuff from it so just flushing meat related leftovers would be cool.

I wonder if it requires a lot of maintenance though. can you basically use it as a way to dispose of organic waste, like a compost bin, or is it just for dish washing scraps?

        Anonymous

you totally can get garbage disposals in Canada. The house I grew up in as a kid had one. Apparently they do get clogged sometimes and its really gross to clean them out, but my parents both complain constantly about not having a garbage disposal anymore and its been over 20 years. They dont really require much maintenance if you wash the bits down with water every time (other than the standard stuff that comes from things with moving parts - they sometimes break)

I've never seen one in Quebec. like in hundreds of homes. maybe it's more popular in the rest of Canada? I wonder why it's less popular here, is it actually common in the US or is it more of a meme?

the single hose ones all suck (HÖHÖ)
you pump out the warm air but it gets into your home from somewhere else because of pressure.

            Anonymous

not that anon and I've never used an AC but I assume the second hose is for pumping air back in, and it goes through the AC so it becomes cool air, so the net pressure is zero

            Anonymous

isn't the point of AC that it's warm inside (because it's warm outside) but you can pump heat from inside out (because outside is bigger)
wouldn't pumping warm air from outside in to replace the warm air being pumped from the inside out be a waste?

            70% is an A

the air is just a carrier of heat. with a single hose, you take air from inside cool some of it then dump it back into the room, the rest you use to absorb heat and transfer outside, then take a now cool air in the room and do the same thing again basically doing unnecessary work by heating up cool air. Two hoses mean, you take air from outside and air from inside, the two don't mix, then you transfer heat from inside air to outside air and dump hot air it outside, while the initially cool air from inside got little bit cooler and was released back into the room.

            ok makes sense now thanks

          First law of thermodynamics.

You can't remove heat from a system without adding heat somewhere else. Window and outside units do this outside while portable units do this inside; meaning they're fricking useless. They hardly cool rooms and when they do, its extremely inefficient. Just get a window unit, even a cheap one will cool better than a portable.

Just my landlord's choice. Honestly I didn't know that they were called "European windows" until I saw this thread. They were pretty common in the Midwest. We called them sun windows. They're a nice alternative to picrel because you don't have to worry about wind or tornado damage if you accidentally leave it open. Some of them have small brackets on them so they don't open all the way.
Honestly I don't like that I can't open it with the blinds down. It's a good way to display stained glass though. One of these days I'll buy a set of sheer curtains from ali.

I've used these when I was in Germany for a few years. I'd rather have sliding windows. With this stupid dual hinge shit you have the choice of the following:
      >Let a small amount of air in but it doesn't actually do anything about cooling down the room
      >Let a lot of air in and cool down the room but you need to make sure there's nothing in the way of the pane so it can actually open up and also if it's very windy it might cause the pane to slam shut and crack/shatter the glass.
The larger the window the bigger the second problem becomes. Also none of the windows in the building were designed with screens in mind so if you wanted to keep cool during summer without an AC it meant you'd have to deal with bugs getting in.

Truly ingenious of europoors, as expected. Figures it takes American triple digit IQs to come up with some as basic as what

most european countries don't have "public healthcare"

what makes america's healthcare system terrible is:
      >insurance companies, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies in arms race to charge as much as possible and the government does pretty much nothing to stop it
      >insurance companies allowed to get away with not paying out
      >healthcare networks making your insurance virtually useless outside of a select few places

everything else is basically the exact same as it is in the Netherlands and Germany.

        Anonymous

You forgot one thing, basically every normal nation limits how much hospitals can charge for things. EXCEPT FOR THE US! which is why you get the $100 aspirin meme.

And the US does have government assistance when it comes to paying the healthcare costs. Which means that a lot of the time it's the taxpayer who is the one paying for that aspirin.

          Anonymous

I covered that with the first point. I seriously don't know why rhetoric about US healthcare focuses on nationalizing it... because that doesn't solve anything. We already pay more $$$ for medicare than other nationalized systems do, and that's only for retirees. Giving it to everybody is just gonna balloon taxes for mediocre insurance.

Our private insurance is more expensive than Euro insurance too. I pay $200/month (would be $300 without some tax deductions I can apply) for what I would consider bare-minimum insurance. My buddy in the Netherlands pays $50/month. I have large copays and out-of-pocket minimum. He has none.

Our healthcare system *is* broken, but I feel like I'm going crazy when I hear people's proposals on how to fix it. Like why the frick aren't we putting more pressure on regulating the businesses causing these high costs? The insurance fricking sucks, the hospitals aren't that great, and the pharmaceutical companies don't actually innovate, they just squat on intellectual property and patents and rely on research done by universities and the government. How about we buck break these three things before we start talking about major overhauls? Like, why isn't that the first thing on people's minds? Why can't we just fix the god damned issue at the source instead of doing a song and dance about some moronic semanticalities?

That whitish thing with the spikes looks like it could be plastic to keep pidgeons from gathering in front of the window.
Here in Krautland, we typically use galvanized nails and metal for that, at least in public buildings, no clue if Bongland uses plastic by default, that thing is painted white or plastic was intentionally chosen for this window to people getting hurt.

There is very clearly a keyhole to unlock it. If that is a keyhole, that is. It might even be just an anti-child lock, which makes this even better. It's like Richard Nixon asking an aide to open an aspirin bottle's child cap, with suspicious teeth marks in in it.

How the frick is that relevant to needing AC or not if you disregard the insulation properties of those walls?

NTA but this actually works fine in temperate countries. Your house won't have enough time to warm up and you can go fine without an AC during summer.
Unless it gets super hot for long time. Then you are living in a house shaped oven. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_European_heatwave

            Which would be exactly what

Insulation doesn't keep homes cool, it keeps their temperature from changing rapidly.

said. The first couple of days of summer are fine, then after a week it will just rise to uncomfortable levels and there's no good way to get that heat out of the bricks.
Obviously you'll survive, but an AC is nice and required to keep a house cool.

This is used by burger “doctors” to circumcise American infant males to emulate israelites. However, like everything else in Bugerland it lacks any nuance or culture. It is a meaningless copy that isn’t even comprehended by the doctor or the parents. They just do it because their masters tell them to do it. They believe it be the source of their freedom to emulate israelites.

It started in the US because of Protestants, back when they weren't exactly fond of israelites in the US. Basically the idea was to try to get boys to not touch their pps, then eventually people just kept doing it out of habit.

Costs of buying/owning a mower + time is often more than the costs of paying someone to do it. I used to mow my own lawn, but then I bought a bigger house and needed a riding mower. The new riding mower was going to be at least $5000. If I paid someone instead, the break even point was 5-7 years...and I didnt have to do it or store and maintain the mower.
