Japanese History

I've never really heard about all of Japanese history. I know WW2 history.

What were the Japanese doing before and after WW2?

    >before WW2
Fighting each other over control of their shitty islands, occasionally raiding Korea. Did a little trading with the Portuguese before they realized they hated wypipo and banned them from the country, which they later reversed when they realized they were underdeveloped and falling behind.
    >after WW2
Creating an economic powerhouse at the cost of the wellbeing of their own people, which is why birth rates have dropped and men would rather drink beer with coworkers and play video games than find a wife and raise a family. Also introducing the cancer known as anime to the world.

    >prehistory - 600
japs were literally uncivilized savages, no currencies, all lived in mudhuts, africa tier
    >600 - 1600
japs copied literally everything from china, instruments, architecture, clothing, writing system, imperial system, laws, culture, everything
    >1600 - 1868
japs ruled by a shogunate (basically a military junta) that closed off the entire country and enforced neo-confucianism (strict social hierarchy and traditional moral values), it was during this period that japan became extremely harmonious and well to do, standards of living universally increased as did literacy, art, etcetera
    >1868
after the americans arrived to force open japan the shogunate became incredibly unpopular with the people and the daimyo (think dukes) who called for a restoration of the emperor to power instead of the military junta that ruled "in his name", they succeeded but far from stopping the opening and westernization the people and daimyo had wanted the ministers under meiji increased it at a rapid rate and tried to be like europe, this caused several revolts and wars by the old samurai class who felt betrayed by this, like the satsuma rebellion
    >1870 - 1920
this new western version of japan copies the westerners and repeatedly tries to expand to new colonial holdings and bully china, they take taiwan and korea during this time, they would have taken more but the various european powers intervene to stop them
    >1920 - 1937
after ww1 the japs adopt a full democracy, this is named after the emperor, the taisho democracy, but constitutionally the state is moronic, the constitution gives undue influence to the military and the people are still mad about various things, famines, earthquakes, and a perceived mistreatment by the european powers (who refuse to accept them as equals), thus begins the period of "rule by assassinations", where ideologically driven young men kill ministers they dislike ultimately causing the military rule that caused them to invade china

You skipped the Sengoku period, 100 years of free-for-all to become the Shogun

It's the history board, you need an attention span to read into history I've read threads that were close to novel length.

I enjoyed the read, but the gaps are worth mentions.

600-800 overthrows the imperial court imposed on them by Tang China after the Baekgang War

800-1400 600 years of civil war and anarchy

1500-1600 Becomes almost entirely Christian after Jesuits dominate their country.

1590-1630 the Dutch arrive and tell the Shogun about Spain's plan to conquer the island, the Dutch also insist that they purge Catholicism. The Shogun listens and with Protestant support they clear out the Christian daimyo and establish a Neo-confucian/Buddhist police state.

Edo is extremely poorly recorded, but it was hundreds of independent daimyo not involved with Edo at all, and one city ruled by the shogunate and a few aligned daimyo. It wasn't purely peace there were multitudes of ethnic rebellions and conflicts with other daimyo. It's arguably the most suspect history I've ever read in life, they stopped using guns which leads me to believe they forgot how to make them, then later brought factories in the early 19th with the help of the Dutch when the shogunate was attempting an early westernization because the famines and rebellions were becoming too much to handle. Saying it was Africa tier is a compliment, north, west, and central Africa were at least Arabized, Japan in Edo made the Aztecs look like the Jetsons.

The later stuff here is pretty accurate. Early and Medieval history is over- simpled. False in the case of the pre-600 AD stuff. That's the Iron Age and was pretty on par with large swathes of Eurasia

          >Hentairo no Hikkimori detests Chinhin No Narutohito, who is trying to marry his daughter Netorarehime to the Imperial Dynasty
          >They fight 10,000 samurai dead, 300,000 peasants starve to death
          >Chinchin becomes shogun.

          >Amenomasashikishimoto-no-Mikoto-no-Amatsukami is greatly offended by Yasomagatsuhikurikori-no-Omikami's gesture of dismissal by showing his teeth on a New Moon
          >both deities fight in Takamanakayamashunakagamigahara, the realm of the grass gods, to see which one comes victorious

Nah, before that. Himiko and Iyo, for example. The Ryukyus also didn't treat women like shit and there are records on the Nihon Shoki/Kojiki of female chieftains. Jomon figurines and Haniwa also feature plenty of female forms
I'm not saying they were a feminist's dream matriarchal society, just that women were not basically objects like the chinks thought

      >>600 - 1600
You really should mention the rise of Samurai govt in this period (1150s) since it kind of defines the subsequent 450 years (and beyond to 1868).

it's not that they copied everything from china as such they were literally chinese/korean/jurchen migrants who mixed in with the locals

Because they have an incredibly boring and of no consequence history prior to say 1900. They were colonized by Koreans and then just fought one another for thousands of years and occasionally became marauding pirates across east Asia

Different genetic group, in fact it's a pretty rare one. IIRC only a handful of other isolated islander cultures are closely related, separate from typical pacific islanders.
