Im going blind, im mentally ill and my health is frail, life has dealt me cards that are hard to play with but is harder if I focus on that for too long instead I live my life a day at the time as Seneca suggested is my only solace the control over my existence a day at the time is enough if yoy consider each day a lifetime.

      Does this actually work?

How blind? I wonder how my outlook on the world might change if I went completely blind

yes. your mind is the slave of your will.

Plato also says that (ideally) that the will and the passions should be enthralled by the mind, a man who allows his will or passions to control him is a beast.

strange, how did they define will and the mind? i always found that will was the manifestation of intent, a sort of vehicle of action springing from the individual. perhaps my conception of the mind is too narrow, being a composite of imagination, memory, desires, and emotion

We might have different conceptions of will in mind, I was thinking of Plato's definition of it being the source of things like courage and anger, which should be moderated by reason. I won't deny that a spontaneous outpouring of strong emotions is certainly more fun and interesting than Stoicism.

We probably do, I doubt any of the terms i use for the mechanisms of consciousness would align with established definitions. So is the mind (in this instance) a sort of platform for the projected abstract?
For the record, my sense of Will is something I regard as a conduit, not an active process of its own accord. It may be funded by reason or emotion, or anything more cognitively primordial.

Unironically yes. But it doesn't come naturally, you will have to go through years of basedjak tears before you learn not to give too much of a frick. What matters is that you eventually reach a state of emotional stability and resilience. Most people in modern society are unable to achieve that

Have you ever being hungry? Do you even know what hunger is? You get used so quickly it stops being a problem also a person who lives under said conditions still has control over their thoughts which is the point after all and some stoics even go as far as accepting an hero as a valid solution if your woes are too heavy, there is no need for pointless suffering.
Also, just as rich people poor people dont know any better for a rich person their luxuries are the norm they are not luxuries at all same goes for a pauper their humble lunch is enough for it is what they know as lunch, thats why the new rich and the new poor are the worst neurotics of them all

        >There is no need for pointless sufferings
Beautifully put, I agree true this is what needs to be told to people indeed but you missed one vital point, In life regardless of rich or poor or extremely poor the way we perceive them we think they live in sheer agony but the problem is they have so well adapted to that situation that their will to live exceeds of that to the rich people.

Rich people are oblivious because they hang on to life more than the hungry people, Who are we to even point at those people, Nay, Their will to live is absolute that they don't bother to suicide. Because they have adapted to Emptiness yet they are the primal examples of people who cling to life because they lack self awareness and that's why I think their existance is futile.

        >Control over their thoughts
No lol ? The frick ? The poor class lacks education even through observation they cannot exceed the barrier of banality, Even though they hold more will to live, They still lack the ability to pinpoint the causes of their problem, They literally steal rob and do anything that's unethical as an unconscious projection towards life, To revolt so they can feel they exist but they do not realize it. Rich people are as bland as the poor people, Self awareness is the awakening of a person and since the poor thrives to become rich they negate that ability which can lead them to becoming the betterment of themselves.

You cannot talk about this if you haven't been through poor conditions if you didn't go through it, Poverty is subjective money is only the drive that negates a person's awareness of the world. If a poor person manages to be aware then he has broken free from the shackles of life.

The great mass of people are generally unconscious, and lack self-introspection, so they get carried away by every mood that comes across them, it's pure instinct.
