Was it ever really "alive"? Anything I saw that was made with it, especially web pages looked ugly. The Dart programming language was just yet another language for people to learn with no real upside (i.e. you really should learn it because it'll make you better at writing code or have some kind of transferable skill). I think the only reason why anyone even took it seriously was because it was made by a Googler and had the backing of Google.

that explains why the only people who defend Flutter in Youtube comment sections are usually pajeets, kek.

I can't imagine thinking that anything I program in will still exist in any meaningful sense in 5 years

Boo isn't fake, it's pretty good for a dating app actually. It is more like a cross between a dating app and a social network, so it's not just endless swiping and let's you actually get to know people.

The first time I really looked into Flutter was when I realized Google is intrinsically incapable of writing decent client side software.

I personally think the core idea was alright and its syntax is pretty clean but it had horrible execution and design. Dart was designed to a frontend language that compete against and/or complements javascript especially outside the browser like Mobile and Desktop. But it was horribly designed and people went with frontend JS/TS frameworks like React and Vue instead.

what is so bad about dart for the frontend?
personally i think the erlang/actor model would have been good for the frontend

Why would anyone ever use Flutter for web dev?
Flutter is only good for Android and iOS.

    > sharing business logic
enjoy your modularity hell, every single code you make in Kotlin will need to have an API interface to work with the other components

dropbox wrote a paper about this some years back
tl;dr it was basically "trying to share code across platforms is far more headache than it's worth, use only native tools per-platform to save time"

        Anonymous

sharing logic is stupid, but the point is to only have to interview and hire one kind of language dev. this is a very appealing prospect for businesses
Google being involved makes it a hard sell though

I'm currently working on some F# bindings for Qt. I'm pretty frickin' excited because I've been wanting to use my favorite language to make desktop software forever now, and all the existing options are trash

What's the best way to do a cross platform app for Android and iOS? Ideally something that is just a webview embed but with the ability to do some native functions via a JS bridge.

As a developer, google's consistent record of killing all their projects is the first thing that pops into my mind whenever anyone suggests we use some of google's shit. And wow, what do you know, a few weeks after somebody suggested flutter (thankfully we didn't go with that) this happens.

I don't understand why people very expect Google projects to live long. It's not some secret or something that they an the majority of their projects within the first 5-10 years.

Even Google is like "yo, this thing is primarily developed by JetBrains and not Google, we should put our eggs into this thing since it's not going to get killed in a year like other Google projects."

This will be the end of Android development. Kotlin was a mistake made from C-syntax hating russian orcs. It is way less readable than Java to the point of being cryptic sometimes. Coroutines are uber-complex and pitfall-ridden, instead of fixing them they added them to the core, then buried them under the streams API after poisoning the well.
Google already fricked up by switching from eclipse to IntellyJ for android development. Jetbrains' IDEs are ultra-bloated and slow as molasses, couple that with gradle and you now understand why Flutter in VSCode felt fast in comparison.
Makes you wonder why google invested on this russian cripple of a company and their meme KMP. They can't but to drown in their own mistakes, there is no recovering from these shit moves. KMP is already done for.
