Rust is okay but the lack of GC makes it cumbersome
Guess I have to bite the bullet and go full Rust mode

Yeah, my company has tried and failed to move away from C development multiple times. It always ends in failure.

Stop trying to be an intellectual and just enjoy writing C. You're miserable because you make yourself miserable not because the world is broken. Breath in the awesome simplicity of metaprogramming and high order functions constructed using string substitution.

sorry to offend you buttercup but C and Go cover all your bases and let you build anything with zero friction

            >zero friction
Having to reinvent the wheel is a big friction

Go is an insult to C.

They’re not so different. Ken Thompson worked in both.

C is like 80% of programming in my field excluding python "development" of ad-hoc testing software.

I love F#. Yea it’s a second class citizen but it’s got funding and has access to the large .NET ecosystem

OCaml is fine, just not used
        F# is neglected
        Scala is dying
        Elm is long dead
        Sad days for functional men

Functional language features have slowly been dissolved into imperative languages. Hybrid languages like Rust and Scala are the most popular.

imo it's okay to use C for a quick prototype or to whip up a toy model to play with and test an idea, but for any project of scale you need a more robust language like JS or Python
