I don't do anything interesting with audio on Linux though. So I really don't know what the big issue is.

Looks like he got filtered *again*. Better pay someone to fix it for him who will then leave because he's such an awful person to be around.

    >why is this low-level direct kernel interface harder to use for games than this high-level API specifically made for games
    absolutely moronic

If you want something like DirectSound on Linux, use OpenAL, which has the added bonus of being cross-platform.

Yes, audio is one of the unsolved problem on linux. The skill requirement to even to try to fix it is very high.
Most people just rely on default pulseaudio setup. And hopefully it works for your purpose. But when it doesn't, good luck. I haven't seen any threads asking for help that got more useful advice beyond unmute your master audio. Which is just saddening.

      Everyone uses pipewire now.

If you read the tweet he's talking about alsa

Read the whole tweet next time.

Is he talking about PipeWire? You aren't supposed to use their internal APIs yet, they're working on a redesign. The PipeWire developers recommend using the PulseAudio or JACK APIs for now.

Yes he is, he pronabaly doesn't realize he can just target the pulseaudio API but that's blow for you. No experience or research with topics but is willing to make a hot take about them anyway.
Also pipe is nothing like directshow I dont know what the frick hes on. Maybe hes talking about some other API.

Yeah, and the simple API does EXACTLY what he wants. You open a connection with a few lines and stream samples with pa_simple_write.

The first few seconds of this video is funny as hell how he looks into the camera. I've never seen someone make that face before lmao

Meh he's got some good monologues. Good to play in background while i work. Decent technical discussions from someone who actually regularly puts out games. I thought he was moronic at first from just hearing his hot takes but i liked him after watching a couple vids

And? What do you release 1 shitty game jam game a month on steam or something? Multiple successful titles and a career behind him

8 years apart for 2 games isn't what a normal person would call regular.
maybe as it's been 8 years since the witness, he'll release his shitty sokoban game.

Kek, Linux for the past 20 years in a nutshell

Windows has had more audio APIs for the past 20 years than Linux.

        Windows:
        >MME
        >DirectSound
        >XAudio2
        >WASAPI
        >ASIO (arguable)
        >Windows.Media.Audio

        Linux:
        >OSS (arguable)
        >ALSA
        >PulseAudio
        >JACK
        >PipeWire

          >PipeWire
i dont even know how everything fits anymore.
spend days trying to stop poping and crackling on hdmi audio.
had to install wireplumber, copy some configs from /usr/share to .config and override api.alsa.headroom.

so now i have pipewire, which i dont understand, which settings are overwritten by wireplumber, that i also dont understand.

          wtf is going on?

    Pipewire fixed everything.

No need to use Alsa and Pipewire is compatible with PulseAudio. Alsa is just a low level interface nowadays.
