Not with that GTKancer desktop and applications ecosystem.

    At this point
Kubuntu, OpenSUSE Leap with KDE Plasma, Debian with KDE Plasma are even better than windows 7

It's funny because W7 is far more usable than Linshit as a desktop, and it's tiring seeing these moron zoomers pretending like everything is perfect just because one goyslop title in their steam library runs under a Win32 emulator. I swear if developers gave half a frick in avoided the few new APIs that were added or reworked in Windows 10, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. And yet here we are, dealing with the neext generation of RGB, muh custom loop, muh hecking $4000 dollarino setup mommy bought me 4 months ago kiddos stinking up the internet with opinions approved and regurgitated by group think. To further prove my point, all major lingays including Linus and RedHat end up using/shilling gayOS because Linus is unusable. Was gayOS ever more functional than Windows 7? Not really. Maybe it's a wee bit better than XP.

Nice strawman. I'm sorry that not even the head and OG kernel maintainer and the number one company in the business of selling Linux support cannot bare your shitty desktop platform experience.

if you think people like this is what driving increased loonix adoption you're simply stupid and have no idea what you're talking about. Most likely jaded old IT guy who can't relate with young people and combines stuff he doesn't like (gayming culture, loonix) into one package.

            >I'm sorry that not even the head and OG kernel maintainer
I don't care at all what they use and I don't need to appeal to authority to defend my choices. I use Linux on my personal machines and never felt temptation to go back, Windows, whether it's 10 or 7 just feels closed down and claustrophobic.
Also Linus Torvalds uses Fedora and wants to install Linux on Apple's Hardware.

You sound like an IT boomer who was raised with Windows and got filtered by loonix.

You keep trotting out irrelevant shit I don't give a single frick about. I use Linux, it does the job for me. There. Why should I care what le kernels maintainers use, you sperg? I make my own decisions. For all I care they could be running TempleOS.
I love the "fact" bit too. Again, Torvalds uses Fedora on an old Macbook. You keep repeating stuff that is patently untrue.

Do games run worse on mint in general? Mint is the only distro I've used so far and I like it well enough but I am curious about vidya performance especially because I'm on a crappy laptop.

Arch-based distros tend to have the most gaming performance nowadays. not by a huge margin tho, but it using older packages and kernel probably contributes to that

The compositor is shit, it reduces the performance of most games
You can get the performance back using gamescope, though

No, because the software on Mint is somewhat dated now, both the backdoor and their reversions are more recent that the packages included as the base in LM21.3/LMDE.

All Mint versions should be clean and unaffected from this particular recent exploit, it's just too new and caught too early to have been slipped into LTS packages, on which Mint is based on.
You should download the latest ISOs from the official website (and verify your downloads' checksums) and not use your probably outdated DVDs, unless you have no other choice or if they are, in fact, not actually outdated.
Mint's been around since 2006 or so, there are probably a bunch DVDs with Mint on it out there.

yes, it's a very close match, both visually and functionally. it's not peek kino and if you gayme or need special software only for windows you're likely out of luck. other than that, great distro if you're coming from windows.

It is indeed very easy to use. If you are annoyed by Microsoft nagging you about making Edge your default browser or shoving AI down your throat, you should try Mint.
