In my experience, Mint is the distro that comes closest to the completion of Windows or MacOS
but, this isn't a knock against Mint, Linux simply doesn't have the kinds of computer programs that normal people use computers for
Are there any video editing programs on Linux? Figured I'd ask here since I'm looking to make the jump but still make decent money on YouTube using Premiere.
probably not. I don't video edit, but I do music stuff, I got frustrated with Windows recently and decided to put Mint on my main computer and use FOSS alternatives to the programs that I use in Windows (besides games) on my main computer.
I have used Linux Mint since mid 2010's, I currently have 3 computers and two are on Mint. I like Mint. but the 2 computers running it are an old Thinkpad and an old optiplex, i basically use them for web browsing, shitposting, torrenting and storage
My main computer I do music stuff, I use Reaper, guitar amp sims, I use Stable Diffusion, I play video games, it's actually a powerful computer with a fairly recent CPU and GPU
I lasted 40 hours on Mint
Reaper didn't work. either from official software center or building it myself from their website... didn't even open
I didn't have a chance to try out any guitar amp sims because I didn't have a DAW
(i paid 70 for reaper license years ago)
Stable Diffusion I could get running, but there were massive memory leaks and after a few gens it would crash with memory errors.
Also couldn't get xformers to work.
I'm not a huge gamer, but I installed steam
Dota 2 was a handful of games in my library that worked on linux.
It crashed almost immediately.
80 percent of my steam library didn't work but I expected that, and honestly don't really care because like I said I'm not super into video games
But I was left with a realization that I was at the mercy of the microsoft ecosystem or potentially the Apple ecosystem if I wanted to continue to do the kinds of things I like to do on expensive computers
Linux just doesn't have the kind of software that can harness the power of a higher end machine for CREATIVITY
I'm not a computer scientist, there are zero programs on Linux that can even utilize 1/10th of my computing power on my main machine
Linux essentially bricked my main PC even if it "worked"
not knocking Mint
pointing out fatal flaw in Linux as a desktop OS
I literally am. But I installed Linux in 1999 on a Pentium 233mhz with MMX technology and 32mb ram
I'm way smarter than you and you are the newbie

word salad is like a noob playing CS trying to hide the fact that he's a noob, but everyone can see it.
Anyone smart enough to realize >I was at the mercy of the microsoft ecosystem or potentially the Apple ecosystem if I wanted to continue to do the kinds of things I like to do
but both too dumb and entitled to lay in the wetwork (YES, YOU!) and complaining and whining about it like a little b***h is a certified moron in my books.
Now, begone.

so if you're so smart make an open source Ableton, an open source Bias FX, an open source Amplitube
nobody else has
I'm not smart enough to do it, so you do it
make an open source photoshop (GIMP isn't it and it's been around for 20 years)
make an open source anything that works in linux that is as good as the Mac or Windows versions
all you do on your linux machine is use your web browser and probably neofetch

Anyone actually concerned about not being at the behest of Michaelsoft or Applel, you don't need to program to contribute, your user experience is a contribution!
That homosexual wanting use-cases?
Flood his inbox.
You don't just need soldiers to lead a rebellion. >not your personal army
Yes, you should do this because you believe in the cause, not because some homosexual (i.e. me) on some Cambodian durian farming forum told you so.

I'm not stupid either, but I'm not going to frick around for 6 hours trying to fix it
I reinstalled Windows 10
also, I wasn't aware that Windows VST's didn't work in linux, so as someone whose primary use (besides lesbian foot porn and shitposting) for the big computer is recording music
I thought vst's were vst's and would work cross platform
but nope, everyone in Linux who uses vst's uses WINE because there are none in linux that are worth a shit

agreed, but you just qemu and run adobe or whatever within a window.
>Linux simply doesn't have the kinds of computer programs that normal people use computers for
"Normal people" buy $1,000 computers and only ever use a web browser.

imo the best free editor is kdenlive
Kdenlive

You don't have to commit. Start with a spare.
DaVinci Resolve is probably the best editor that has linux support but it is proprietary. For FOSS alternatives there is Kdenlive.

It's (sadly un)surprising how uninhibited people can make fools out of themselves.
I'm a shrimple man(female). My gaymen peasea runs windows, my do-everything-else pc runs mint. It's just that simple.
Why yes, I do trust a distro that hosted its OS ISOs via WordPress, then got its website hacked twice and its ISOs backdoored. Why do you ask?
ok

correct. installed on my Thinkpad t420 and it works like magic
