So reproduce with a high IQ spouse and your descendants are more and more guaranteed to be exceptional

Doesn't mean that they weren't crying hard about the dysgenic breeding so much. Worry about it even got into The Time Machine with the Eloi vs the Morlocks (could also have been a comment on the British class system)

The movie Idiocracy was initially supposed to be a pessimistic future, but now we know that it was actually too optimistic compared to our timeline.

Victorian era Britain unironically had significantly higher average IQ than modern Britain.

      >the average modern man has a better IQ than his great-grandparents
      >the average modern man would be completely fricked if left alone in nature, unlike his great-grandparents
      We'll be fine.

      >the average modern man has a better IQ than his great-grandparents
False. The above about Britain also applies beyond them. Modern man has on average significantly lower IQ than his great-grandparents' generation had.

isthe Flynn effect BS then? I have always been sceptical of the claim IQ is going up, but haven't got around to looking into it

The Flynn effect has been going in reverse in most Western countries for a couple decades now according to studies on it. This despite increase in training on the kind of 'puzzles' used in IQ tests. Better health and nutrition initially lead to higher IQ test results, but that effect was limited and is now being outdone by dysgenic breeding (progressively later age of childbirth also increases the likelihood of birth defects and lower IQ, an effect that accumulates if practiced over multiple generations), unhealthier nutrition and lifestyles, and declining quality of Western education systems. Maybe potentially also stuff like microplastics and other hormone-disrupting chemicals that younger generations are getting increasingly polluted with, but the exact effects and extent of those are still unclear and unpredictable.

Idiocracy wasn't that great if a movie. Weird that everyone just lists that as a demonstration of the future rather than the frickton of sci-fi and satire people wrote long ago.

The grea-grandparent gen would score way lower in a modern IQ test.

Not true current day 50th percentile IQ would equal like 30th percentile from 50 years ago. We’re getting dumber and they didn’t have poor nutrition and/or schooling in the 1970s to make them stupid.

the small brains were the result of the heavy pressure change from hunter gatherer societies to agricultural ones.
brain shrinkage in animals happens during domestication and humans basically domesticated themselves with civilisation.

IQ is not a fixed number and can change over the course of ones lifetime
Genetic IQ is also not fixed and can change over the course of an overall populations history.

There are many reasons you should be concerned about the future, moronic people breeding isn't one of them. morons have always bread, this isn't new.

social mobility throughout most of history was practically non existent.
do you really think simply having a high iq would raise you from a peasant serf to a noble?

            >Starving would correlate with lower economic status which would correlate with lower intelligence.
Extremely dependant on the society. Nor does being of higher status actually means intelligence because status is pegged on a plethora of criteria. Many times merely brownosing the right people did a lot of the heavy lifting.

I highly doubt any such thing could totally negate the correlation, only modify how strong it is.

The 'future' doesn't exist, until it is realised it simply remains an abstract concept.
Live your life for the now, for yourself and not some sort of concept like 'future' 'fate-of-civilisation' or 'future generations'
