    JRPG battle systems are actually easy to make and let you run into various problems good code design lets you solve. If you're a complete newbie you'll make something really dumb code-wise, but even that is valuable because when you then later learn about programming concepts you'll realize how useful it is to have e.g. a 'BattleParticipant' class with the variables and functions both the player and the enemy have, so you don't need to code everything twice, or how you can easily switch enemies by defining their values in an external file and loading the values into an object, and so on.
