They could make a flavor with Plasma 5.27. It'd be great, the best distro even.

yeah that doesn't really mean anything but i don't know how else to describe it.
i'd use the MATE edition but i don't see why i shouldn't use just straight Debian & MATE like i am now.

I find the idea of arch and other "diy" distros very appealing. Instead of relying on someone else to put shit that doesn't break you just do it yourself, 100% customization without shit you don't really need
posted from a Linux Mint 21.3 "Virginia" box btw

both you and I know that people posting their desktop screenshots don't actually use their PCs to do anything meaningful aside from consuming cheap entertainment and pretending to be busy online for (You)s or upvotes, linux mint (and well ubuntu) on the other hand is the working man's distro, it gets the job done and quick
you don't see it in a IQfy - Consuming morons thread, but you might see it in a work environment

why the frick would I not utilize my display? My resolution has NOTHING to do with sharpness. Switch to KDE Plasma. It is nice and sharp on my other PC as well.

I thought Debian 12's KDE was version 5.27.5, why is yours 5.27.11?

I am also on kernel 6.8 instead of 6.1. Learn how to use Debian.

4k makes text look better, nerd. Again, if you want to provide and apples to apples comparison, switch to 1080p, take a screenshot and switch it back. Until then, the reason for your good fonts will be 4K and not KDE.

Even when I used Mint, in 4k, on Cinnamon, the fonts were blurry smeared shit. If you want to keep using garbage, I can't stop you.

same reason you refuse to switch to real Debian with KDE Plasma, I am just hard headed, however I know better. I used both, extensively. Anything with GTK will always be broken garbage, especially with font rendering. Why? Because your lord and master ebussy thinks that good looking fonts don't have a use case and refuses to fix font rendering. Keep guzzling the cum out of his ass all you want. I have moved on.

I use Mint, I love Mint, but I wonder about its future. Is it sustainable being reliant on Ubuntu? What's the Linux Mint group like? Are they getting paid or is it mainly just volunteers?

I'd hate it if someday I were forced to abandon Linux Mint because it's no longer in active development.

My only problem with Cinnamon, but it's a big problem, is that it routinely suffers from micro stutters. It's most noticeable on low specs but I see it even on high end hardware.
Just try something like woofdoom on Cinnamon and you'll find it to be choppy. Even though the game itself runs at 60 FPS, and reports that, it's like Cinnamon's compositor bottlenecks everything
KDE doesn't have this so I have no choice but to stick with KDE

    I've been using Mint Edge for a month. I'm using a ryzen 5900x and a 6600xt.
Kernel, I decided to switch to linux-tkg. It doesn't take too long to build and it works fine.
I'm using a few PPAs, I know this is a source of trouble for some people, but I'm limiting myself to what people generally do not have a problem with. kisak GPU drivers seem to work perfectly.
I had to manually install pipewire but that's pretty easy.
Steam downloaded from the official website works as good as it gets and I haven't had any issues running anything through it. ProtonUp through flatpak works fine too.
VRR works without issues as long as I enable tearfree as well as variablerefresh. Scaling is dogshit but font scaling factor works the way I want it.
I don't know what doesn't work here or deters people other than thumbnails in the file picker and some other gay shit. Multiple monitors maybe because x11.
