Modern female authors

Why are modern female authors such garbage? In the past, there were great female authors and even recently J. K. Rowling was amazing. Go and find an audiobook on youtube right now by a female author and listen to the first ten minutes. They all follow a similar pattern no matter the genre.
>Main character is either a Mary Sue or has one minor flaw that "isn't her fault"
>Action sequences are so poorly written that you can't even picture them happening in your head
>Men bad
>Main character is "quirky" and "cool" but really just comes off as annoying
And other things along a similar theme. The tone always feels the same as well, written like Twilight (except Twilight was actually pretty okay). I realize that I'm discussing sub par authors here but I am comparing them to other sub par authors who are actually good, there are plenty of great zombie books available as audiobooks on youtube for example. Do they just get a woman pass to write absolute dog shit or am I imagining things?

I listen to random audiobooks on youtube to fall asleep to. I'm not really picky about what they are but I just happened to notice a pattern.

This was the last book I read by a female Canadian author, was the most boring piece of shit. I could not make it through more than 1/2 through because it was just incredibly boring.

      >boring
Weirdly enough that isn't even my main complaint here. Yes, a lot of them are just boring as well but remember that I am listening to audiobooks to try to fall asleep to so I am fine with them being boring. It's more that they are just badly written and the main character always feels like some kind of weird self-insert. There is nothing wrong with a character being written as a self-insert inherently I don't think but there is a right way to handle it and a wrong way.

You didn't think those were well-written? I know they had a ton of plotholes but that aside, you didn't think those stories were entertaining? When I was a teenager I loved those books.

You are obviously biased. Any retelling is obviously creatively bankrupt. As if Circe needed to be adapted for modern audiences.

That's not true anon. Some of the best stories out there are retellings, at least in part. We re-use stories all the time. Take a look at all the great fantasy books with Elves in them.

And sometimes its fun to read stories about ancient Greeks from modern authors.

I can only satisfy my escapist tendencies by reading books written by dead authors, whose works are so far removed from cultural relevancy that they may as well only exist for me.

There’s a tendency in the current zeitgeist for people to overly praise just-ok or shit works as groundbreaking as long as they’re written by women and “subversive”. There’s undoubtedly good stuff written by women out there but they’re hard to find when so many books written by women that people say are good are actually shit.

That's nonsense. Do you actually believe people are putting women and minorities ahead just because of their identity? That's crazy talk!

These people are chuds. They actually believe that women and minorities have some advantage when books are getting selected to be published. They're totally crazy and need medication.
