      Learn how to script around network namespaces.
      It's not that hard.
      ip netns exec exists.
      No need to add a 3rd party tool with added complexity.
      From the amount of shilling you do for firejail, I'm starting to think it's backdoored.

        >From the amount of newfriending you do for firejail, I'm starting to think it's backdoored.
        Linux is back doored. Well, systemd + udev + eBPF + polkit + binfmt magic + JTAG. I link the refined tooling around netns and Firejail does quite a bit more than most here could accomplish trying to script around it. Please do share your l33t examples with the class.

          >Please do share your l33t examples with the class.
          There is nothing to share for the no internet access case.
          ip netns add NO_NET
          ip netns exec NO_NET <command>

          Done.

          For more spoon feeding:
          # inside terminal running inside NO_NET ns
          export DISPLAY=:0 # assuming default X11 env
          export XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=/run/user/1000
          tmux -L NO_NET

          And there you go, a separate tmux server instance inside NO_NET ns.
          No need for yet another setuid-ed binary like firejail.

            That only takes away network and does not limit where they can read from and write to. The default profiles in Firejail already take care of most things. But sure, you can do everything from scratch. I gave people the easy mode.

    I want an MPV script that lets me push a button to generate an audio clip, a screenshot and an anki card corresponsing to the subtitle line currenrly shown on screen.

    I found https://subs2srs.sourceforge.net which sort of does what I want, but creates clips/cards for the whole video whereas I only need one or two lines per movie/episode.

    Brainlet here. I used to use the old mpv webm script just fine.

            which is why I wanted to change. but as I said, it fails immediately.
            i guess i'll try adding it to path but i don't really get why that would fix it. Out of interest, where are the logs for the webm script so i can check them?

            Nothing useful there unfortunately, just shows it attempting to encode before it abruptly stops.

          >I'm not on Wayland

          Note (X11)

          This option does not work properly with all window managers. In these cases, you can try to use --geometry to position the window explicitly. It's also possible that the window manager provides native features to control which screens application windows should use.

          Also, awesome makes this easy:
          https://awesomewm.org/doc/api/classes/client.html#client:move_to_screen

            I'm still very new to Awesome, do you happen to know how to make all mpv clients opened with a certain profile move to a different screen?
            I had it set up so that when I launch streamlink it opens mpv on my second monitor but when I manually open it it opens on my main monitor.

          • 2 weeks ago

            Try something like this (untested):
            awful.rules.rules = {
            { rule = { class = "mpv" },
            properties = { screen = 1 }
            },
            }

            Just add the rule if you already have awful.rules.rules in your config.

          • 2 weeks ago
            Anonymous

            Well that works for one part of what I need.
            I'd really prefer if there was some way I could just tell Awesome not to touch the window and let mpv handle it.
            But at least now random shit wont pop up on my main monitor when someone goes live.
            Thanks.

            Anonymous

            I didn't notice that you needed this for a specific profile.

            This can be done by doing this in the mpv profile:
            title="${media-title} - MPV_SCREEN_1"

            Then in awesome config:

            client.connect_signal("property::name", function (c)
            if c.name:match("MPV_SCREEN_1") then
            c.screen = 1
            end
            end)

          • 2 weeks ago
            Anonymous

            I couldn't get what you sent to work, but after a bit of faffing around I got this to work:
            client.connect_signal("property::name", function(c)
            if c.name:match("MPV_SCREEN_1$") then -- Ensures the title ends with MPV_SCREEN_1
            c:move_to_screen(2)
            end
            end)

          other extractors not written in python don't break as often as yt-dlp

            wow it's almost as if yt-dl/yt-dlp has a larger userbase and thus has larger surface exposure to google when they purposefully make breaking API changes.

          it literally IS the source. if you revert kasper's d3d11 commit, the problem goes away according to the user. the only people complaining about a/v sync shit is always winhomosexuals because their OS is a failure for video playback. you never see anyone using a *nix or even a Apple system who complains about this shit

          win32 support should just be dropped

        new question. how do I make my arthouse film collection smaller but still good quality

          delete that as well, most "arthouse" movies made before the 50s are propaganda slop

        doesn't matter, MPC-HC has it now so there's basically no reason to use mpv at all.

      that's not mpc-hc, that's some russoid "videorenderer" repo

      • 2 weeks ago
        Anonymous

        it's the video renderer for MPC-BE, which can be used with MPC-HC (and has been the recommended video renderer by clsid for a while now)

            >Start your own thread for this winshit.
            most people in this thread are on windows, im letting them know that mpv is obsolete now and they don't have to autistically lurk this thread 24/7 just because mpv provides no GUI or guidance on how to set it up, making them have to ask questions on this pseudo-support thread all the time
            >This is "mpv ffmpeg yt-dlp".
            MPC-HC uses ffmpeg and yt-dlp

            There is nothing amusing or provocative about what you write.
            And if it's not a trolling attempt, it's A Declaration of moronation.
            >MPC-HC uses ffmpeg and yt-dlp
            Typical wintard. Doesn't know the difference between CLI and library.

            you type like an ESL moron
            >Typical wintard. Doesn't know the difference between CLI and library.
            MPC-HC literally uses the same yt-dl scripting that mpv does, and lets not pretend like anyone in this thread ever uses ffmpeg as a CLI program because i never see anyone discussing cool or complex filter graphs for their chinese cartoons

            why are you so hurt? explain what your actual problem is so that we can cut the bullshit.

    mpv used to be so simple where you just needed to add profile=gpu-hq and stuff just worked
    >spline36
    lanczos but less artifacts. good quality upscaling (and fast)
    >mitchell
    least artifact-prone downscaler, blur but very high quality in all other regards

    mpv now:
    >ewa_lanczossharp
    blur and smudges details, increases shader compilation times and frametimes by 20x, not efficient
    >hermite
    blur and moire, only exists as a quality/performance compromise apparently (but then why use ewa_lanczossharp if performance is suddenly a priority? so many contradicting philosophies..)

    what happened?
