Probably a moronic question, but which of these is most "like" Solaris? Quite a few jobs I've seen ask for experience with Solaris and I want to get develop said experience

I'd love to see a WM replicate the behavior of windows in Haiku. It's nice to be able to stack them by tabs and to tile them then resize as one window.

You mean window grouping like in PekWM?

          Anonymous

Nice, I didn't know about it. But it seems to support only stacking, not tiling as in

where you glue windows together side-by-side. Maybe I can fork it and add that...

(Sorry for bad webm quality. I don't know how to ffmpeg flags; and will not try it again with different flags on my potato).

Only ffmpeg flags you need to know is -i <input file> and -crf <value from 1 to 49 or sth. the lower this number is the better the quality>

Why is anything that's not Unix or Windows completely useless

      Anonymous

Nice comparison. I don't think the other OSs are useless though, even hobbyist OSs listed as "no real use-case" allow you to do something with your computer. Basic tasks are easy to implement. Complex shit like modern browsing is not really necessary for everyone

      >Should I begin by writing my own programming language?
No. You don't want to be bogged down in that. Decide platform and language, including assembly, and start writing.
How about a KolibriOS-like OS (written in assembly) for RISC-V?

What is the most bare ones OS such that anything I want, I have to program it myself? The only requirement is to have a compiler (for whatever language it uses). It feels like when I can easily download something, I have no reason to code it.

I'm trying to boot Haiku on VirtualBox but get stuck on this boot screen. Anybody have experience? Windows task manager says it uses like 0.5% of CPU and about 120 MB of RAM, so it's not completely stuck, but I see no progress
