North Korea is utterly fascinating

The Hermit Kingdom is just terrifying and intriguing to me. Was the USSR as closed off to outsiders as NK is? Pretty much everything we know about it is from defectors or sources almost 15-20 years old at this point.

Anyway ITT can anyone tell me about the history of North Korea as closely as has been documented?

The point is the NYC subway is not only much larger, but it has far more passengers. And most subways or subway stations do not look like those pics, but when you have a larger sample size it's easier to cherrypick now isn't it?

Chinese have a natural level of dirtiness and digust compared to other Asians, they are far less clean than Vietnamese and Filipinos and only a step above Indians. Zhang here doesn’t the reason why NYC is so dirty and polluted in the first place is because of Chinese immigrants. Have you ever been to a Chinatown anywhere around the world that wasn’t extremely dirty? The Chinese brain and perception is too deluded and warped to know they are dirty and unorganized as hell and will never admit to it.

Many villages with wet markets look very dirty from the view of westerners. I believe there are many run down factory areas that look identical to Detroit or Magnetogorsk. Its a different type of dirtiness but just as dirty (the Chinatowns in Philadelphia feels very similar to that area)

Of course it's crowded, how would you avoid it? Every metro is crowded in peak hours and there may be a train every two minutes or less.

Crowded yes, filthy no. Well maybe in Shanghai but definitely not nanjing. Anyways measuring wealth based off a metric such as subway aesthetics is moronic

The New York City Subway has been operating in some form or another since 1868, less than three years after the end of the Civil War. 155 years ago, so old that the grandchildren of the first people who rode on it have long since died. It's got infrastructure that's beyond decrepit, it's literally ancient. Trying to maintain anything that old is a constant uphill battle. And they can't shut down the system for any extended period of time because millions of people rely on it to commute each day.

A better comparison would be the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit, which is roughly the same age as the Pyongyang Metro and is also both complete decrepit (apart from the rolling stock which was recently completely replaced) and flooded with subhumans.

No, I think thats part of their reasoning for isolationism, not only do they see the USSR as becoming too weak and thus failing the soviets also kind of abandoned them which really sealed the idea for the Kim's that Socialism should be for one country and not an international revolution. There is also no large international communist bloc to support them when capitalist countries blockade trade with them.

sort of related to your post, I recently watched "Entertainment made by North Korea" by Paper Will on youtube, it provides a lot of insight into North Korea that I haven't seen in mass produced documentaries and books about visiting North Korea which I've read. it's extremely long at 5.5 hours but there's a lot of content to cover. opened to my eyes to the people living there. would recommend.
