Many government organizations use Windows. It will be interesting to see what leaks out of congress critter computers as part of this program.

Government's agencies and armies don't give a damn because their network are running behind strong VPN and firewall.
Their endpoints output almost as much telemetry as any other consumer endpoint. But nothing get past their firewall.
Recall is a nothingburger for them.

i'm glad the uk is doing this now because combined with the EU it means we'll probably get a lot more details about how it actually works instead of just "oh its like.. yknow... that windows 10 feature..........." which if that were actually the case then why sell it as a new feature.

Whew, I was worried for a second. Fortunately Microsoft has a good track record of respecting users' privacy.

It's the same story for every emerging technology.
      >we can have decentralized currencies that are backed by solving mathematical equations
      >instantly becomes a get rich quick pump and dump scheme
      >we can use the blockchain to link ownership to digital goods
      >"Lol, buy my collectible .jpg Monkey"
      >we have invented "do what you tell them to do" machines, that can create artwork or tell stories
      >let's just use them to vacuum up data and sell ads

This is just a negotiating tactic on part of the UK government; Microsoft sells the telemetry & other info they collect to national governments. The UK gov is just wanting a cheaper price for that.

Five eyes are on ISP level and can launch backdoors on a whim. why the hell they need tech companies? if anything, they'll just hire another subcontractors for their dirty work.
Big tech is impotent and bound by the market. Even if they glow really hard, it's all for the money. The state can just print it and say: what are you going to do about it?

Unironically switch to linux because of this, every time I've flirted with switching to linux I've gone back to microsoft like abused and battered housewife with no where else to go. I fricking hate using linux. Doing basic tasks that are really easy on windows is such a fricking nightmare on linux. The process of creating a simple desktop shortcut should not be this complicated. The file structure makes no fricking sense. getting lost in windows file structure is impossible with easy and cleanly everything is laid out by comparison.

and im using windows right now because i need it for some software and my laptop doesnt play too well with linux
