unironically bad take, ipad is for light entertainment and luxury for drawing, note taking, reading, etc. Thinkpad + ereader is better

also I own like 4k+ dollars of apple shit

an ipad with keyboard is even worse than a fricking chromebook. at least the latter has proper multitasking.

I'm not an Apple fanboy, but I'm actually curious to know why you would buy a laptop over an iPad for non-production use.

Like, if you just need a portable computer for browsing the internet, sending emails, attending meetings, watching videos, why wouldn't you buy an iPad? With the Magic Keyboard it more or less functions like a laptop. It has a much better display than most laptops, much better battery life than all x86 laptops, an actual good, properly optimized touch interface, and comes with the added versatility of being an excellent drawing device with the Apple Pencil.

For the record, I would never recommend anyone buy a Macbook, an iMac, and iPhone or any other Apple products like that stupid mouse. But for a lightweight on-the-go computer, I think iPads are a pretty good option.

      >Why buy an 7inch mobile device for browsing the internet, sending emails, attending meetings, watching videos when you can buy this unnecessarily larger version of that same thing for some extreme price? It's just a glorified browser, what more do you need?
I want you to read your own post again and think about it.

No tard, a phone is different.
An iPad with the Magic Keyboard (which is a keyboard and trackpad) provides an interface much more comparable to a laptop than a phone. Bigger screen, faster typing, more space for stuff like emails and Microsoft Teams, among other things. iPads are also professional-grade drawing tablets and even provide a solid DAW experience.

      >browsing the internet, sending emails, attending meetings, watching videos
the classic watch youtube and attend meetings job

      >With the Magic Keyboard it more or less functions like a laptop
it only runs ipad apps so you cant do anything meaningful with the keyboard and they cost $300 and are flimsy as hell

      >much better display than most laptops, much better battery life than all x86 laptops
      agree but laptops are GARBAGE

      >added versatility of being an excellent drawing device with the Apple Pencil.
its cool BUT if you do anything professionally with it you are going to transfer the sketch to a pc to properly finish it in photoshop/illustrator

if you travel around its handy to check pdf or blueprints standing around outside in some workplace
some restaurants place the cheapest one on tables to show the menu and order from there instead of having to call a waiter
these are the 'pro' uses ive seen ipad being used for

i have one its a consumer device, an iphone with a big screen thats it

Yes, this is a valid use-case, no matter how much you may scoff at it.

        >it only runs ipad apps so you cant do anything meaningful with the keyboard and they cost $300 and are flimsy as hell
Who are you to say what is and isn't meaningful?

        >its cool BUT if you do anything professionally with it you are going to transfer the sketch to a pc to properly finish it in photoshop/illustrator
I can tell you for 100% iPad Pros are used professionally, and used in studios. Apple is the only company who have gotten gesture controls right, and Wacom isn't even remotely close (their "touch" models are considered a joke).

It's literally the opposite to what other anons are saying. Why the frick would you buy this over a MacBook? They have the same chips, but MacBook has a (slightly) more capable OS. iPads are absolute bottom of the barrel consumer trash. The only things they really do well are reading (outclassed by e-ink dedicated reading devices) and in-bed use (where a laptop is still totally passable)
In reality, just buy an 86x laptop because no one needs a battery life longer than the 10+ hours the AMD chips will give you and then you won't have a crippled platform. Inevitably you will come across software that would be nice to have, but needs 86x.

If it's complementing a macbook, the ipad is the supercharged productivity device. You can take notes, read and annotate course material, sketch out project plans, read and annotate papers and textbooks, and transfer your work to the macbook. If I'm not programming, I can even study all day with it.

It also allows for emulation with a lot more ease now, which means you can connect it to a TV or monitor, and use a controller, to turn it into this sort of emulation home console, and then you'd be able to use a telescopic controller to use it as a handheld, essentially turning it into a Nintendo Switch, that doubles as a desktop, laptop and as a tablet, which is exactly what it is, so versatile!

I'd say that nowadays, the single device you sort of need to have on for daily life is a smartphone, no one can really escape from it, but after that, if you had to own only one more, it's a tablet, sure.

does the ipad count as a maid phone?
Is there a smaller version that fits in a cargo pocket or apron?

my normal 11" iPad fits in my cargo pants pocket but only barely, and it sticks up and out
if I wanted a MessagePad 2000 successor that easily fits in a cargo-pants pocket I'd get an iPad mini

when I organize my freshly-downloaded memes on my iPad I first move them all to my MacBook Pro so I can file them in half the time because Alfred + Finder is that much faster than the Files app, even when I plug the iPad into an external display and mouse
