"Only things we can physically verify exist". "Why?"

"Only things we can physically verify exist"

"Why?"

"Because it's the only thing we can materially verify"

Materialist epistemology is just literally circular bullshit.

Empirical arguments depend on internal logical consistency. Why do you lie and feign intellectual honesty rather than simply admit you don't know?

          Anonymous

That's called the problem of empiricism. It's an epistemological gap that means their conclusions can never be totally proven. A well known problem in the sciences.

Funny that you should ask that anon to give proofs, and when he points to defective logic and maths you call him dishonest and point to a reasoning system that objectively can't prove anything.

Truly baffling, but such is life for the pseud.

            Anonymous

It's not a problem at all because the scientific method doesn't function by induction. It functions not positively (we do not produce proofs), but via negativa as a marketplace, and we arrive at the truth through competition between hypotheses formed by free association, systematically falsified by elimination of error, bias, fraud, wishful thinking and deceit, until only the truth as we know it remains given the means available to us. and there is no reason to assume otherwise.

Every single form of supernaturalism that has ever existed makes the same appeal to a special case and exclusion from empiricism, and your particular case and particular psychological bias that causes you to justify that case are not special.

            >the scientific method doesn't function by induction

            lol, you are ridiculous
not only is inductive reasoning absolutely critical to the scientific method (read Bacon), I wasn't even referring to the problem of induction

it's the epistemological problem of *empiricism* you need to educate yourself about

            >Every single form of supernaturalism that has ever existed makes the same appeal to a special case and exclusion from empiricism

On the contrary, many people who assert the reality of so-called supernatural phenomenon do so because of their own personal sensory experiences with it. In that sense most arguments for the paranormal actually are empirical.

            >only the truth as we know it remains
so you admit you don't know for sure if your idea of what is true is actually true, because empiricism fundamentally can't rigorously demonstrate proofs

Ever since I could remember I’ve learned true from false.
People lie, people get things wrong, people make stuff up to make themselves feel better, people speak on things they don’t know because their ego can’t handle not having an answer.
I’ve noticed that people who say things in those categories cannot back it up with facts, but when something is true it can be verified with senses, other people independently using their senses, tools of measurement and instruments.
When someone makes a claim and they can’t prove it or REFUSE to prove it, I’ve learned it’s reasonable to dismiss those claims.

Every single form of supernatualism is just an appeal to be considered as a special case. Abrahamism is not any different, it just so happened that israelites were far better at producing literary pilpul to defend their particular supernatual appeal. And even still today we see that same Semitic supernatural nonsense converted into Semitic pseudoscientific nonsense like Marxism and wokeism using the same method of argument.

By the way, that's *Francis Bacon* who expounds the scientific virtue of induction.

    Not his preeminent forebears.

    >The Baconian method is the investigative method developed by Francis Bacon, one of the founders of modern science, and thus a first formulation of a modern scientific method.
    >Bacon's method is an example of the application of inductive reasoning.

    >scientific method doesn't function by induction

    Choose one.

In response to the problem of induction many philosophers of science moved away from positive claims based on induction to other theories.

Yeah? Well that's a coping mechanism and Popper's thoughts seem contrived to me.

There's nothing inherently wrong with induction. It's just not 100 percent certain, like all our senses. Out senses don't need to be perfect in order to be effective, so long as we remain aware of our limitations.

There's no getting away from the fact that our senses are imperfect, that doesn't mean we should or even can just abandon them. Not every subject can be math.
