      >What is the use case for AI?
This. The frick do I care about AI if I'm not a company trying to sell buzzwords and useless products?
I have a GPU to play games. I don't give a flying frick what brand the AI companies need to buy.

I have a RX 580. When I learned that AMD stopped supporting its AI thingy (stable diffusion can use ROCm) on my card, I just went and bought a new nvidia GPU. The RX 580 was expensive as frick so frick them. The new nvidia GPU was as expensive, but it's ok, I'm not a poorgay.

It was like $300. Before that you could get a pretty good GPU for as little as $150. Then prices exploded. I know, you dumb kids think a decent GPU should cost $3000.

          >Before that you could get a pretty good GPU for as little as $150.
8800 GT (2007) was $300 (not adjusted for inflation).
voodoo 2 (1998) was $300 (not adjusted for inflation).
Inflation doesn't matter I admit, but you need to remember that in 1998 minimum wage was $5 and mean average salary was $40,000.
When I say it doesn't matter I am talking about how cost per frame matters more than inflation. You can buy a used gpu today for like $50-100 and it will run pretty much every classic game you want (like a 1660 TI or 2060 or 6600). You could buy a 6650 XT for $250~ (or a 4060 for a bit more) and you can 99% of AAA console port games with settings pegged down above 100fps. Or spend 2x extra on a high end GPU like the 4070 and get around 2x more fps and run AAA games on ultra, maybe raytracing on 1080p.
Like the prices today are actually the cheapest they have ever been, game developers are not trying to prevent budget gaming laptops from being able to play their games. People don't need to spend $2000 every 4 years to get the best experience in gaming, people can still use a 1060 and reach 60fps in the newest games with the right settings.

      >RX 580: not supported
      >a fricking GTX 750 Ti: works out of the box
no wonder why Nvidia is winning, AMD just fricking surrendered all their compute stack, dropping support for barely old cards, not supporting new cards on release etc.
I've swapped my RX 580 for a GTX 1060 i had lying around.
AMD is supposed to innovate as a smaller player, instead they are just slacking off.
They have only announced the Ultra Ethernet Consortium and UALink, meanwhile Nvidia had Infiniband GPUDirect and NVLink for years...

        >I've swapped my RX 580 for a GTX 1060 i had lying around.
These 2 cards are basically the same shit, what's the use case for burning the calories required to swap them?

compute support, that was the whole point

        >They have only announced the Ultra Ethernet Consortium and UALink, meanwhile Nvidia had Infiniband GPUDirect and NVLink for years...
I think AMD management suffers from chronic Not Invented Here syndrome. They keep inventing new buzzword things to achieve goals and abandon the old ones compared to Nvidia continuing to iterate and improve what they already have.
