People often criticize the Old Testament God, but a thought just entered my mind. Why is it wrong for God to "kill" people? He literally created humans so he can literally do what he wants with us. Humanity owes God nothing and we literally deserve to go to hell because of sin, so God killing someone or commanding the killing of someone isn't even that bad. For all we know, God might have given them a painless death and zapped them straight into heaven.

Believing that God killing people is bad is a humanitarian stance. Unfortunately God is trying to appeal to humans.

uh no, creation ought to beget more responsibility, not less, what the frick are you talking about.
Would you say that a mother who gives birth to a son is allowed to do anything to that baby, including abusing and even murdering him?

Why is infanticide wrong? Your parents literally created you. Why is child abuse wrong? They created you, you're their property to use as they see fit.

Do you see how evil an idea this is?

    >Humanity owes God nothing
Humanity owes Go EVERYTHING! There's not a single pleasure you have experienced in your life that God did not invent from scratch and gifted it to you out of pure generosity. Even freaking animals have orgasms and sex, how amazing is he?

He did not have to give us anything yet most things in our lives are extremely pleasant, satisfying and pleasurable. Even taking a piss he made satisfying to do. Everything you are forced to do to survive he made pleasant and satisfying to do.

Arent fingernails the perfect tool for scratching your very pleasurable skin when it itches? And even if you cut them they just keep growing back for as long as you live. He knew everything man would need before man was even created and gave man all those things for free. Just by being born you get to enjoy his wonders, whether you love or hate him, they are available to you.

But for those who do love him and do thank him for this, he has greater wonders reserved for them to spend an eternity enjoying.

why do you kill bugs in your house? You did not even create those bugs or have any love for them yet you have authorized yourself to kill them at will. Even chickens and cows and pigs you slaughter by the millions to eat.

Wouldnt God have even more right to kill a man that he did create and does love and therefore must have way more justified reasons to do so?

Or are you so proud and arrogant that you see mankind as some special being who must have special reverence and respect for? A reverence and respect you do not grant to those below you but expect the Almighty God who is an eternity above you to do?

Why even delegate this child-murdering wizardry to a cosmic henchman?

Why this elaborate, violent drama of suffering for both Egyptians and Israelites in the first place?

You said "why the elaborate, violent drama", and like any dramatic moment, it has a purpose in the story. This story has to have the Israelites severely in debt to God from Exodus onwards.

Because people have the same will to live and fears as you. You don't kill your son just because you "created" him. This kind of thought goes ok with militaristic savages such as chinese, arabs or spartans.

This is why the story of Jesus had such impact. God, for once, becomes human and experiences life as a simple being, suffering injustice, fearing death and dying.

I do not pretend to bring up an argument about God's omnipotency, omniscience or anything. These concepts were developed later on by catholicism, merely touched upon by israelites, spoken lightly of even. The incarnation of the Christ makes a clear understanding that God has experienced the human condition and has resolved to make it just.

Humanity can't pass judgement on God.

      >For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians, and when he sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you. - Exodus 12:23 (ESV)
      >During that night the Lord will go through the country of Egypt and kill the first-born son in every Egyptian family. He will see where you have put the blood, and he will not come into your house. His angel that brings death will pass over and not kill your first-born sons. - Exodus 12:23 (CEV)
Wtf? Why are the two translations so different? Why does one mention an angel of death but the other doesn't?

    >Why is it wrong for God to "kill" people? He literally created humans so he can literally do what he wants with us
While technically true, that's not why it's not wrong to kill people - it's human SOULS that are the purview of God's will. If God "kills" somebody, it doesn't really mean anything because the given person's soul typically just goes straight to heaven. The reason it's wrong for humans to kill other humans is because we don't have manifest control over other human souls and their destinations.
