Permanence of SWE Devaluation

I know variations on this thread get made all the time, but I think it's worth raising the question regularly. To what extent is the lowered value of SWEs permanent and to what extent is there going to be a rebound, and under what circumstances? Are poojeets/AI going to finally end this profession for real or is there going to be another round of rockstar devs like there was in the 2010s?

    youre getting it asswards
    swes were over-valuated
and now the suits decided its time to pop the bubble.

situation will not "normalize" before you reach retirement age.
but hey- next on the chopping block: data charlatans

And you think that there will be no consequences for this? Serious question.

        beyond what were seeing now?
        not really.
sw development is not like shuffling coal.
you can reduce a team to 10% of its initial status and still keep the show going. ish.
artistry ironically is the one thing that cannot be downsized to its core motor components afaik
theres no 10x ers in graphical design.
        and you cannot sprint inspiration.

            ah, yes ofc
            downsized this way- yeah
but in that same vein, we are getting downsized since we invented tools and agriculture (technology replacing labor as opposed to team management streamlining/squeezing things)

Thing is, basic supply and demand dictates that if it's not SWE or datawank, it's something else. If there's no money to be had then all of these products and services getting shipped can't be sold, and their prices plummet. That's deflation, or negative inflation. We can't have that. So wages are going to have to go up ove that tbh

            not really.
            1. swe's dont account for a big portion of conumers.
            2. high swe pay was linked with the high costs of silicon(e) valley.
devs being given the coice between SV and somewhere else picked SV bc thats still more money left in their pockets.
now the rest of the country has to compete with SV for devs.

suits decided to stop with that nonsense bc why pay exorbitant wages to someone else when you can pay them to yourself.
maybe some of them even engineered the crisis.
or maybe the ussidized schools and such that appeared throughout the world, like S42 were a measure to combat the costs of SV web devtime.

bc honestly, websdevs are the most hit
and equally honestly: they never deserved 100k p.a.
although i heard that gamedevs are hit pretty hard too
but thats for a whole other reason entirely (blackrock pushing wokeness and drowning studios in the process. fun times. plenty of indie devs on the loose now.)

Yes, really. There aren't a lot of jobs that can pay for a house, car, and family left. SWE is one of them. If we go from a few jobs that can pay for these things that are accessible to normal people, to a tiny handful, that has consequences. The idea that nobody can realistically get a good job is untenable. It won't last. The society will collapse if "good job" is an out of reach fantasy for basically everybody for more than a few years.

Even given your cherry-picked criteria of specifying contractors, the claim that construction workers make more than software engineers evaluates to `FALSE`. 75k<100k lmfao. According to your chart, only those in the 90th percentile or above of contractors make the median (normie-tier) software engineer.

So. Yes. As I said: next time, actually think before telling people who know better than you to "touch grass." Oh! And next time, don't double down on an incorrect take, like you just did.

legal money accounts for 75-50% of the earnings.

Wow those are some very interesting numbers you're making up there. So we've gone from construction workers making 30k/yr to specifically builder construction contractors making 75k/yr to those being fake numbers and they're actually making 150k.

All that bragging about only doing a half hour of work a day when working from home caught up to you. It's not pajeets or AI, it's that you couldn't shut your mouth when you had a good thing going. So now you're getting paid what you're actually worth, which is not much.
