Probably the most exciting peace of software of the last decade.

Lossless Scaling.

The 'ram doubler' kind of software that actually works.

Can it be used on linux?
If no then is there any similar software available?

FSR3 supports dll based injection. So technically any game that supports DLSS 2.0+ can support frame gen on Windows or Linux. YMMV though because some games have snowflake versions of FSR/DLSS that cant be messed with.

didn't know those programs could do frame generation or go beyond set limits of elden ring at 60hz.

this program basically saved me $1000 bucks on a new gpu. I needed rdr2 to run at 1080p 84hz, not possible with my gpu (3060 12GB). use rtss to set the fps to 42, rdr2 on ultra settings, add lossless scaling with 2x framegeneration.
      silky smooth fps.

No one on the right side of the bellcurve ever thought that. This whole image drips with low IQ.

The frame generation is completely worthless for any kind of visually dense game imo, there's way too many artifacts and especially if it's a third-person game the amount fizzling you'll get around the character is insane. It also costs a lot of performance, i was doing 120fps and enabling this cut the actual rendered fps to 80 (on a 4090!). Note that the monitor refresh is 240Hz and I was running 2x so not an issue there.

The only possible use for it is for 2D games locked at 60fps normally. It reduces motion blur a lot and can potentially allow you to use 120Hz BFI on a display with support (eg my LG CX). You still get artifacts though (very severely on dense grid patterns, if the game has any of those) and there's a slight if perceptible impact on input lag.

i can think of edge cases with games of locked fps due to engine like elden ring or bethesda games faking 120fps

can fsr frame generation be used on any game? what makes lossless scaling's usable on anything*?

AMDs driver framegen can be used on any game but its much worse than Lossless Scaling in both quality and speed.

how can software be more efficient than driver level???

          Anonymous

because its not "driver level". its part of the amd control panel software. if you do "driver install" only then it doesnt include it.

I don't know how anyone stands all this upscaling and frame generation crap when it induces so much perceptible input lag, visual artifacts and distracting ghosting. The frames might be "smooth" but the feel of it is shit
