TIL that Gmail shows you customized ads because it has people reading your emails. I can't believe that Protonmail was the first system advanced enough to use computers to scan people's emails.

My point is these scans can be done within an encrypted and safe environment in such a way that a systems engineer cannot read your emails which means you still have privacy while the system health is maintained to prevent abuse.

CIA? Idk where you got that information from but that's fake news

Proton is based from Switzerland with some strict privacy laws in place along any countries like Germany that prevents foreign corporations including foreign law enforcement's or foreign governments (especially CIA) from reaching out information about a specific user's data.

Even Proton themselves addressed that on Reddit saying: "For instance, RSA encryption was also invented at MIT. Proton, as a company created by scientists, has connections to most of the world’s top research universities, but that doesn’t make Proton a CIA/NSA front."

            >This. PGP might be more safe than face to face right now.
Depends. If at risk then any electronic device that can be connected to a network remotely is at risk. Does it have a cellular, bluetooth, wifi, radio or IR connection capability (the last two being [almost] non-issues due to bandwidth)? Then it's a risk. That goes for anything with a speaker and storage capability that isn't analog: even an ipod can be breached to turn on the speaker and record, only to relay it when connected to a service. If truly concerned and in a position where it can be a risk there are two options: do nothing and accept the risk, modifying what you say and do; or ensure there are no devices nearby (~50 metres sounds reasonable for a general microphone in a noisy area - but that needs some sort of tech confirmation). There is no way to completely secure a device - especially when there are trusted modules (interesting language choices there - consider the juxtaposition of "trusted" with "module" or "computing" - the latter two have no inherent "trust" associated with them) which are black boxes in the most extreme regard. Which makes no sense considering making them open source would allow for security testing to identify vulnerabilities.
tl;dr: there is no escaping without elimination or accepting risk and taking mitigations accordingly.

That's literally every single email client, encryption and bullshit doesn't matter because you're still using a third party to send it.
The only way to achieve true privacy is running your own email client and your own encryption protocol and have the other people also use your methods.
Privacy/Security freaks here are the biggest idiots there are and will always be.

Also not enforcing this will mean protonmail emails will get blacklisted for user accounts which harms legitimate users. Just like how most disposable email addresses are blacklisted.

Is it illegal to want an anonymous email?

      Anonymous

Pajeets and scammers ruined it for everyone. There can be no true anonymous email outside of self-hosting because people will get the email provider blacklisted.

        email is basically deprecated

It's not that it's illegal, it's that you don't deserve it since all you use it for is spam and CP.

Considering 99.99% of people are using it to share cp, then yes, it should stay illegal
      >I'm le different from the le others
It doesn't matter if you're part of a very tiny minority, the vast majority are still ruining the concept
People using the paid service to create dummy accounts to make fake xitter accounts to call other Black folk or something of sorts have nothing to worry about
They don't really give a shit about your mails but they still need to know you're not committing international crimes that could get their service blacklisted

how do you think email works?
the email server just guesess who the email is for? of course it has to fricking read the email dipshit otherwise how does it know to pu tit in your inbox?
take 7 seconds to learn everything there is to know about how email works before posting something moronic next time please

      >of course it has to fricking read the email dipshit otherwise how does it know to pu tit in your inbox?
By reading the name on the envelope?

sure, and your ISP can read all of the request contents you make because how else would they know it was a reply to a IQfy thread

            Anonymous

The difference is email is like if you sent all your letters with a letterhead and no envelope. The mail server has unrestricted ability to read the contents of your email.

            Anonymous

            wrong, moron
do you seriously think that the content and the destination are strictly together and that there's no way to encrypt the content without keeping the destination readable?

            Anonymous

Yeah nothing says "flag me glowgays" like encrypting the body contents of your email. Way to stay anonymous.

It delivers it because it knows the IP address and port number which are not enough to identify a mailbox within an email server.
JESUS FRICKING CHRIST PROTON USERS ARE SO FRICKING moronic!!!

          Anonymous

I was using an analogy anon, try to follow along if this is not too hard for you. Just like how real life data can be "sealed" inside an envelope with only a label on top "readable" by the intermediary, the same thing can happen with digital data if they really cared about providing security mail services.
But of course, just like how in real life the postman can actually unseal it, read it, and seal it back, so can the mail provider, bringing us to this thread.

            Anonymous

moron, you CANNOT read the RCPT TO field without having access to the body of the message. That's precisely why your envelope argument is completely moronic.

why is email so hard these days? everyone wants a phone number and shit and deletes your account after like 6 months of inactivity. i just need one to register for shit and wouldn't mind actually keeping it but i barely use them so they get deleted after a while or i'm hit with give me your address phone number when i try to login after months of no usage

      Anonymous

Back when they still gave an actual shit about your account security all you had to do was give a security answer, like "What's your mother's maiden name". They don't even ever ask that anymore. Instead they ask your number and then send it flying to the highest bidder and frick your anus on checkout.

        Anonymous

everything seems like that now. i used to have a bunch of mods up on nexus under different accounts i'd use specific to that game, for years it worked fine, then suddenly i'm hit with a verify email thing because i didnt log in for 6 months. and of course the email acc had closed itself too by that time. what a pain in the ass, i never even bothered to check if they actually take down what i've posted or just mark my accounts as deleted
