      wrong
switching to 16:9 after using CRTs is cancer

Depends on the vidya but yeah. Older stuff definitely. Newer stuff probably not as they weren’t seasoned for it and utilize 3D graphics and sharp detailed text needed for interfaces like most pc games. OLED beats it for that. But playing super Mario bros 3? Yeah it’ll look good on OLED with scanlines added but not exactly the same as a good CRT.

Also it’s really hard to find a big CRT that is a flat strewn with properly adjusted geometry.

I know this has probably been asked a million times (I'm also too lazy to use the archive), but what's the most cost efficient way to buy one of these frickers?

I have a Sony Trinitron TV that I bought for like $5 at Goodwill back in the early 2010s, but I can never find CRTs irl anymore. Online sellers always ask for too much also. I'm wanting to buy a CRT computer monitor but I feel like spending more than $50 on one is outrageous

I'm in the contiguous states for what it's worth. If I have to spend a couple hundred bucks on one then so be it but it just feels like a ripoff

If you put up a request on Facebook good chance some grandma is willing to part with it for like 5 dollars.

You were supposed to buy a pvm for $80 12 years ago before the hype really hit.
The guy had 4 i should have bought all of them

      facebook marketplace
you may have to settle for a more average / slightly above average model though, if you don't want to feel ripped off
the people that have the higher end models generally know what it's worth

Only really worth using with old hardware and low resolution analog video. They have some advantages but fall far short from overcoming all their disadvantages. I actually got my old CRT monitor out a few months ago to give it a try with modern shit and in the end I couldn't find a single use case where I preferred it overall over my new screen. The new LCDs and OLEDs themselves are certainly far from perfect as well, but still better overall. Monitors and displays are just cursed technology and every single one of them comes with significant downsides.

They are analog devices they were product of their time. Most of the hype is from contrarian hipsters who were born after mainstream production had ceased.

They have extremely low latency, and the aspect ratio is nice for functional tasks, since 4x3 or 1x1
They usually have a high refresh rate, color reproduction is only meh, but they produce good contrast ratios due to how phosphors work, they're usually low resolution, they're power inefficient, heavy/large, and terrifying to repair which is their biggest downside

Great motion clarity, can do lower resolutions better than fixed pixel shit.
If this is what you're prioritizing, then it's for you.
Now if you need widescreen and 4k resolution, get an OLED screen.
    LCD is trash

obsolety, heavy, large, power overconsuming shit. I remember I had to use filter on screen, as it wasn't included to filter what I guess was UV light (not to mention crts could occasionally emit x-rays when electrons misaligned on the screen). low resolution that ironically helped to mitigate bad graphics by blurring it. only possible positive is it had 75+ but not really worth it. I threw it away immediately when first reasonable lcd monitor appeared in my country and so should you.
