I think that the whole "technology is destroying traditional values" thing is more of a societal concern than a Republican one, but it is the conservatives who ultimately voice that concern.

I see no reason why these changes need to be in conflict with the old ways. On the other hand, if real problems (not those caused by the globohomosexual propaganda bullshit) do arise, we should seek to solve them together by finding a somewhat middle ground, instead of focusing on BTFOing the other side.
Our current society seems to be lacking empathy in general, and given our need as a species to mostly live in societies, this is pretty bad. Left-leaning groups, as well as everybody else, would benefit from quitting this us vs them mentality, and start speaking and hearing the rest of the world.

Not entirely false by the time it was said. But by now It seems like lots of conservatives are much more critical of technological progress and corporatism in particular.

Victorian Britain is a direct refutation of the idea that technological change inevitably breaks down traditional values.

The conservatives are not fools. While they whine about the decay of traditional values they only pay it lip service as a binding stratagem for disaffected indigent technophobes. By enthusiastically supporting technological progress and economic growth they create a bulwark against their progressive antagonists. It has occurred to them that rapid drastic changes in technology and the economy of a society will cause rapid changes in all other aspects, and they well know that those rapid changes will break down tradition. But what they skillfully determined is that the same change can be used to shoot new buds and regrow tradition, like a summer fire burning through a forest meadow, clearing the dead trees and letting sprout a new. For you see, had these conservatives taken a truly indefensible position, say one of revanche or retrenchment, they would get crushed by both the speed of change and the inhuman demonic vigor of aforementioned progressive opponents, who seek to alter, break and obsolesce not just tradition but the human being itself that carries it.

Astute reader, do not flatter the tongue of modernity that has brought you to this point with vanity about a middle road when you are walking the eternal rope, for to your right is patience and wisdom, a desire to build a new the renewal of the human spirit, and to your left is the optimistic nihilism of doom, change for the sake of change and the same hunnic barbarism that brough down your fellow romans. But there is much suffering whichever way you jump, do you surrender to the blackness or breathe to your last towards the dying light of all mankind.

it wasn't hard to do, let's be honest the guy might've been a good mathematician but he was an absolute dimwit when it came to philosophy, social commentary, understanding other people's motivations etc.

Conservatives don't conserve, everyone with a brain knows that before even bringing up the technology question. They support all the fundamental beliefs of progressivism but apparently just don't want its effects.

      >They support all the fundamental beliefs of progressivism but apparently just don't want its effects.
That's exactly what it is. They're capitalists that don't want their daughters to be prostitutes - or want to secretly pretend they're not - even if they have to carry all the guilt of their hawk fathers.

Liberals are perhaps worse though because they fully accept the system and their delusion is in thinking there's no other way. Or in their power hunger keep believing in the bullshit.

It’s irrefutable. It’s a fact obvious to anyone who isn’t a conservative. So it just begs the question, how are conservatives so stupid that they can’t see what a dead-end their beliefs are and how self-defeatingly hypocritical they are

Conservatism is just "let's revert to social conditions 20-50 years ago," it's not a serious or practicable politics and never has been.

It's correct. However, progressives are just as wrong but in a different way. They think "progress" is not a sterile ideology, but a sincere value to live by. Progress in itself does not provide sincere values. Life is a combination of attributes.

You also cant expect a mutual deconstruction of a nations technology without other states seeking to take advantage of one lest they decide to keep their war machine. It's just common sense.

For example, household chores are mostly automated. My Roomba™ dusts for me, my washing machine washes my clothes, and my dish washer cleans my dishes. What is there left for a housewife to do other than to eat hotchip, lie, and watch Netflix?

Why does nobody who posts in these threads ever read him? The manifesto is short, well written, clear and fairly enjoyable. Pretty insightful too unless you're well familiar with those thoughts already, which never seems to be the case. Just open the pdf, go buy the pamphlet, lend a paper that printed it, just read before posting.

I have read him, at least his shorter manifesto. He makes a decent case imo but I think he's mistaken to blame it solely on technology and not bad economic, political, and cultural systems.

Ted's para-luddite position is superficially distinct from the modal Conservative whom is incapable of actually preserving what has been passed down to him, and consistently indulges in all modernity has to offer, just at a moronic pace compared to the techno-fetishist neoliberal/communist accelerationisms. If Shed Man was serious, he would ally and align himself with those fools just for that moronation, and direct his efforts at defusing the nihilistic deep end jumper ideologies that are counterposed to them, if only as a stop gap measure.

Aside all this, there is no stopping Moscow & Beijing from taking advantage of 'green' and 'eco-friendly' bullshit to attempt first strike WMD Zero Sum Game gambits (which they routinely and indiscretely talk about in domestic media, government, and military circles).
