Regular glass slab smartphones will become much cheaper in 2027

>companies follow whatever Apple does
>Apple makes folding phone and does it better than Samsung Fold, Huawei, etc
>sales for Apple folding phone skyrocket because they command sales due to Apple being the most fashionable brand of phone
>other companies reverse engineer folding iPhone and make copies of it and flood the market with clones to grab folding phone marketshare
>folding phones become normalized and now you create a new product tier that is here to stay
>regular slab phones no longer in high demand because people want the new sexy folding iPhone or a folding clone to ride the latest fad wave
>regular slab phones that used to be flagships are no longer flagships but low to mid-tier
>regular slab phones dramatically drop in price due to lower demand and shift to production of folding devices that people want because Apple made it OK to buy folding phones.
>we finally no longer have to overpay for regular slab phones as long as we ignore the folding meme

Only 3 more years until high end regular slab phones stop being grossly overpriced.

You get a new one when your old one stops working. But there's some morons that still genuinely believe they have to upgrade every year

You have to get a new one every 5-8 years because they're no longer built to last like candybar and clamshell phones.

So what? Can't buy a phone every 8 years?

        How so?
A phone from 5-8 years ago is an iPhone X or a Galaxy S8. A bit outdated specwise maybe, and you've probably had to replace the battery at least once by now, but it's not like they're falling apart. Hell I still see people using iPhone 6's sometimes. You know, the infamous bendgate phone.

Apple would never make a new product line that cuts into the sales of their existing product lines.
This is why the MacBook has no touchscreen, the iPad no sideloading, the iPhone no multitasking. It's all very intentional. An "Apple Fold" would be the antithesis of this, and so it will never happen.

The iPhone has been long dead anon, it's actually an iPad Micro, they keep the iPhone name due to what you say, but neither Apple nor competitors manufacture phones anymore, it's all small tablets that make calls

The iPhone came out in 2008. It will be 19 years before apple could do sometihing new with the iPhone. Foldable phones are neat but not as practical as the slab. It will be 19 years before the foldable phone stops being a luxury item.

Nah, time does not care for our preconcieved notions, just like slab (sadly) lasted considerably longer than something than the slider, foldable could be a fad or the next big thing

Or they just make the iPhone foldable and not have a separate line.

They're going this route, ideally the iPhone would've been split into the iPhone, a line of sub 5" phones, and the iPad Micro (Those tablets that they currently sell but insist on calling them phones)

To rejuvenate their stagnant iPhone sales with something fresh. They are taking a long time because they want to do it well or it will be a flop like the "mini" iphone nobody wants.
