Ryukyu Kingdom

>Ryukyu Kingdom
>colonized by the Empire of Japan
>native Ryukyuan language and culture actively banned and destroyed like in occupied Korea
>native Ryukyuans treated like shit by the Japanese. Used as meatshields against America in WW2 and forced to die for the Japanese
>Ryukyu islands become part of America as an overseas territory
>Ryukyuans apparently disliked American rule so much that they decided to join Japan as Okinawa Prefecture in 1972
What was it about American rule that made them chose to join thier former Japanese oppressors rather than be part of America? Why didn't they chose to become an independent kingdom again?

From what i've seen from Chinese influencers there's some sort of ongoing influence campaign weaponizing annoyance and the U.S. bases on Okinawa to try and psyop an Independent-Okinawa back into existence.

Here's a video from a Chinese influencer chatting with some shill of there's that lives there who says that the Islands real name is 'Luchu' and that their actually closer to Chinese people and the Islands were stolen by Japanese colonisers, And something about the Battle of Okinawa in ww2 being fake and it actually being an excuse for the IJA and USA to kill 'native Luchuans' and replace them with Japanese people.

Yeah I'm from Japan and it's an open talking point among conservatives that Okinawan (Ryukyuan) nationalism is funded by the CCP.

They are funding something that already existed. Trying to paint it as "this foreign agent doing x" ignores the Japanese government is in full collaboration with the US government to have that US base on the island.

So are you saying England should be part of Germany because it's Germanic?

If England was a tiny meme island with a population of 5 people in the North Sea yes. That is the standard among all nations.

Okinawans are very much oppossed to Americans occupying their land, just another example of the western block pretending to care about self determination

The frick you talking about? USA gave over Okinawa to Japan in name only, the US military still dominates the island. There was no plebiscite for rejoin Japan. The US chose to have Okinawa part of Japan to make it easier to military dominate it.

      ?
The entire controversy in Japan is that the Tokyo government is working with the U.S. government to keep the U.S. bases there. The local Okinawans don't want the bases but the mainland Japanese government ignores their wishes and want to use the island as an American outpost base against China. Japanese don't give a frick about Ryukyuan people. Just see it as a nice vacation spot

Shouldn't have lost the war if they didn't want to be Japanese.
Shouldn't have lost another war if they didn't want innocent women raped by a drunk Marine on a Tuesday night.

They don't want the military bases
Giving it back to Japan looked better than having it as a colony (that still wanted the bases gone), US never offered independence because closing them down would be the first act of a sovereign Ryukyu

The Japanese southern daimyo's did launch southern campaigns against the Ryukyu Kingdom which mayhem was simply a loose favorable trade agreement & tribute.

Let's not forget to mention that it's "legend" that the Miamoto clan from the Genpei was thought to have taken whatever remnants in the naval fleet were left to colonize the Ryukyu Kingdom or integrated into their warrior class. However, I don't know of any archeological or written documents in Ryukyu Islands for this, but wouldn't be surprised.

With that said I always wondered what the navy of the Ryukyu Kingdom looked like and who manned their battleships. Wad it simply a home navy that consisted of hired mercenaries?

    >Why didn't they chose to become an independent kingdom again?
Because they still identified as Japanese? Black people in America got the short end of the stick for a while too, but like Federick Douglass said, that doesn't mean they want to leave the country or secede from it.
