I guess what they feel is dying is people paying for art. The main point is nobody is forcing you to stop painting or shoving a dining room chair into a wood chipper and calling it art. What you want is for someone to pay for it, be it state or private benefactor. These are two wildly different things.

Art has been dying little by little with every bit of technical progress. Photography did. 3D CG did. Even the invention of printing contributed a little.
If you switch on your TV, you will understand that the so called Luddites are right. It's just getting killed in small steps.

      Anonymous

Quite the opposite. Thanks to technology, we got art that transcends single medium or technique. Art is no longer just a painting or composition or a book. Like I've said before ITT, the best art is often multimedia. Even video games... especially video games, allow artists to create interesting worlds that you can immerse most of your senses in and experience them for hours. And I'm not talking about call of duty or other trash that comes to your tasteless mind when you hear the term. There is tons of artistic games that wouldn't ever be possible without technology, Yume Nikki/2kki, Lisa, Braid or even stuff like Undertale or DDLC. And that's just games, ignoring the countless hobby artists, animators, performers, musicians and such who got means and stage to present their art to wider audience thanks to technology. It was never this easy to create, share and enjoy works of independent artists.

      >inb4 hurr durr it's not a high art
The notion of high art is what ruins art. It creates a pseudo intellectual circlejerk that detaches art from the audience and puts boundaries onto something that is supposed to cross them.
Sorry, I will always prefer to listen to my favourite musicians and look at drawings from my favourite artists than to look at a banana taped to a wall, no matter how "tasteless" does that make me.

      Anonymous

There are many times where a programmer will come across a situation where they are among either the very first to ever run into a particular problem, and they will have to solve it themselves. AI only knows what it has been trained. Anything that it hasn't been trained on, it just completely shits the bed. Thus, you'll never see AI "solve" software until it's solved everything else, because to be able to solve problems generally, you need to be able to do a lot more than just rehash old training data.

Until AI can grasp rule sets (figure out what a "dog" vs a "cat" is based off of rules, without being explicitly trained off of thousands of examples of cats/dogs), you will forever remain infinitely far from general AI, and thus 'solving' coding. Or much of anything, for that matter.

Modern AI only 'beat' art and many other categories because of the extremely simple rulesets, or because of the millions upon millions of files they've just stolen off the web, from which they can induce into their statistical models and act as a variable in their cloud of terms and definitions in order to give an output that averages out to as close to the request as possible. Without that stolen data, it would have nothing, and produce nothing.

It's because the lawmakers are slow to react to fast emerging technology and AI is moving VERY FAST. Lawmakers have failed us, yet again.
They don't understand the problem, and they have bigger problems to deal with. AI will do

For those who don't understand, imagine you are a baker. You bake a dozen pies, then someone steal 1 slice from every pie you made and they claim they've made a brand new pie with 10 different flavors. They didn't really make anything, they just stole pieces and blended it it all together. The "wrong" that's being done to the artist is their shit is being stolen and they're not being paid. This WILL NOT WORK IN THE LONG RUN because even if AI replace all artists, the AI still needs artists. Once they're gone, the AI stops working. It'll take a while for everyone to figure that out, and AI companies will be super rich by then.

    How do you fix this??
Make a law saying that no AI can be trained with data unless that data is "free" in the sense of no copyright or licenses or unless you have permission of the artist. This doesn't hurt the artist but actually helps them!! Now an artist can draw a few pictures, then use that to train an AI and ask the AI for a dozen or hundred more pictures in the same style.

Action won't happen unless people demand it. Talk to your local congressman about this.

      You wouldn't steal a pie.

Based moron, have a (You) for the bait. I enjoyed this post. AI needs to continually consume art from real artists to live.

when you worship "Progress", you don't get to pick and choose what to accept. it comes whether you want it or not.

we'll start caring about your predicament when you drop onto your knees and repeat the mantra:
    >TRADS, LUDDITES, AND SCHIZOS WERE _ALWAYS_ RIGHT AND I'M EXTREMELY SORRY FOR DOUBTING THEIR TIMELESS WISDOM

after that, welcome aboard #TheResistance brother!

that's why washing machines and dishwashers exist since "forever"
stupid b***h, it's obvious your art and writing would be trash anyway

These b***hes are so stupid that they still believe that household work is degrading and oppressive.

It never lived within the normies anyway as they lack any discipline or sentience.
Why would you think people would abruptly stop their hobbies or expression just because you are posting corporate sponsored bullshit?

We already have that, they're called the washer and dryer, you simply throw in a cup of soap and they do the rest with minimal effort. But these people, they only get excited by appliances that send pics of their butthole to the government.

best art is done as a hobby to enrich your life, not as a replacement. But I wouldn't expect a Polish b***h to understand anything.

Will we get an AI that can detect AI art? If I go into a bookstore, how can I be sure that the book I am buying was not "written" by an AI? How can I be sure that the picture was not "drawn" by an AI? We need some way to be sure that the art we are buying was made by a human. Soul is important. That is what art is, after all.
