He's right. There are few more biased groups than rabbinics at putting out a history. Just last night we had a thread where one claimed that israelites took their traditions from an Assyria that was three to six times older than it really was.

Doesn’t that have more to do with religion. Eastern Orthodox were very opposed to literacy compared to Protestants and papists. I from time to time orthodox people lamenting the invention of the printing press and literacy as the downfall of Christendom.

Orthodox believe a real christian is poor, illiterate, rough with a very hard life to be a real christian. A rich educated man cannot be a real christian.
A shepherd in the mountains is more christian to the orthodox than the pope.

How were they more opposed to literacy, when the first state-owned printing presses were furnished in Zeta and the Serbian Despotate, and were then later moved to Wallachia, another center of Slavic writing?

Illyria was based and consistently produced good warriors and leaders. Your slav shithole was a centuries old operation of D&C that was only good for being passed around from one empire to another.

the Serbian and Bulgarian Empires predate the French, German, and British Empires, and unlike Western Empires, were ruled by native dynasties that furnished their literary languages, and their seats of administrative and religious power, whereas the Germano-Celtic masses were subsidies of Latin Rome to modernity, not to mention that Protestantism was weaponized by the Ottomans (on whom the Protestants relied heavily originally) to severely destabilize Europe. You cannot produce civilization, you merely maintain the preexisting one through the premise of pillaging and looting.

            >Illyria
Pirates whose greatest moment in history was getting defeated and Romanized, the very definition of "being passed around".

Yeah, the ottomans. The Balkans where a backwater shithole stuck in the dark ages, full of petty kingdoms constantly fighting each other, the ottomans brought technological innovations and peace to the region. Once the ottoman empire collapsed, they went back to their usual tomfoolery, sparking ww1 and all the other conflicts that defined the balkans in the last century.
The balkan-turkey relationship is very similar to the India-UK relationship in that aspect, the slavs and greeks are nothing but ungrateful barbarians.

imagine the most enriched decadent country in western europe, a place where natives are a minority and everyone else is an unemployed nafri hood rat. now, multiply it by 10. that's turkey. turkey is basically new syria at this point. it would drive any man mad.

The Romans prior to Christianity were happy to keep a hands off approach to the provinces provided they didn't riot and cause a fuss like Judea.

The Turks would implement the usual Islamic shenanigans of Jizya with the added bonus of taking your sons to turn into brainwashed Janissaries and your daughters as sex slaves if you were Christian and couldn't pay the Jizya.

    >hypocrisy
One of the greatest butcheries of the English language is the intentional misuse of the word "hypocrisy". There is nothing hypocritical about preferring one period of your country's history over another. Not all empires are created equal.

Balkan people were primitive, barely able to communicate until the Romans civilized them, leading to history being told only through a Roman lens. When the Ottomans conquered, the Balkan man finally learned to scrible their complaints on stone tablets.

come late antiquity the native balkanics were mass raped/killed and replaced with south slavic ancestors of modern day populations anyways, so the ottomans ruling slavs for 500 years is personal whereas the grecoromanwhatever doing it to native balkanics that also left no written records is literally not their problem
