Setup and thinkpad upgrades

I use the Thinkpad mostly just as a music station, since it is to slow for anything else. It connect to the radio and from there to the two white boxes as those are the only boxes I own. What do you think of the setup? Show your setup!
And moron question coming in, is it possible to upgrade a graphics card in a thinkpad? I bought one with 16gb ram and 1TB SSD. It’s a T430s is there a way to upgrade the graphics card? As that is the only real part in it which is bad. Also where should I get a replacement battery from?
Thanks for any help.
Also on an unrelated note. Does anyone run tails for any other purpose than market browsing?

If it is an iGPU, you could get a better CPU with a better iGPU. But it won't really matter. It will be shit anyway. You could try an external GPU with an adapter.

Honestly I have no idea. These are the specs that are listed. I bought an extra 1TB SSD. Is it really that shit? And is there a chance to upgrade this graphics card in particular?

You already have a dGPU. Even the fastest iGPU wouldn't beat it.

So is there no way to make it faster? It’s not here yet but I imagine it will be pretty slow. Is there any way at all to upgrade the hardware? As in get a new graphics card in it?

No. Thinkpads never had replaceable GPUs.

Hmm ok. I just hope to be able to use it in everyday live, e.g. ut should be able to load a YouTube video in 1080p right?
Do any of you have any cool Thinkpad setups?

That is zero problem. I have a T430 myself. Not really necessary, but you can use the add-on h264ify to get h264 videos on YouTube. That will give you GPU hardware decoding.

alright that is good to know. I got it for 80 Euros and the SSD was another 60 for a total of 140 Euros. I am leaving my home for a year in the near future and needed a capable workstation for traveling,
and this seemed like the best option for my tight budget. I hope it isnt going to bite me in the ass

Don't expect wonders from a 10+ years old machine. Here the T430 playing a h.264 video in 1080p.

Try disabling turbo boost for the CPU. Maybe more thermal headroom will squeeze more performance out of the GPU. Also you could replace the thermal paste and try some small over clocking.

You can get a T14 Gen 1 used with Ryzen 4650u for like $200 USD, and the IGP in that is 4-5x faster than the NVS 5200M. CPU is likely 4-5x faster too.

fair enough, though that is quite expensive. But on the other hand you cant excpect quality to be cheap.
      BUT

No. Thinkpads never had replaceable GPUs.

      >No. Thinkpads never had replaceable GPUs.
wouldnt that make it kinda pointless to get a new one?

You can't get a new one. If you need to replace the dGPU in a Thinkpad you have to swap the complete system board.

Would it be feasible to get one of those off of eBay or something similar? And how easy would it be to swap out the system board for a normal person?

If you can find one, you can swap it. I think the steps for it can be found in the Hardware Maintenance Handbook for the model. But I am not sure. But don't expect to get better versions. It will just be replacements in case of defects.

damn shame, so I am basically stuck with what I've and the only part that I can upgrade is the hard drive and the ram? cuz I want to keep that i7 core.
Still, I should be happy with what I've got.

You can easily upgrade RAM and SSD. Less easy you can also upgrade CPU and wifi. With some tinkering you could upgrade keyboard and display.

yeah, it comes wit 16 GB of RAM, which is the most I have ever owned in my life.

Furthermore I just hope to use it for daily task, and that should work out too. [

I still think it would have been nice to get a better graphics card that that is just plain impossible with the limits I am given.
All I have to figure out now is the battery
