      >a natural suggestion would be "telegram"

Are you a complete mouth breathing moron?
Telegram isn't even comparable to Signal.
      >server closed source
      >no encryption by default
      >suspiciously requires a real phone number and pays out the ass to rape your account if you play games with that

If Signal is compromised, it's a damn good compromise, since everything is open source even the server.
You can use voip numbers like jmp.chat with Signal all day, it does not give a frick.

          Don't care, don't use ios.

          >server closed source
Can you verify that Signal's server is running the same code as the one they publish?

Doesn't matter, end to end encryption by default negates the need. Telegram doesn't have end to end encryption by default, the default settings are terrible privacy wise.

If you want to believe Signal is compromised, by all means, but suggesting Telegram is just braindead moronation or just plain third world shilling because it has ZERO advantages to Signal either in terms of the purpose of being a private personal messenger or in terms of being compromised. The one advantage of Telegram is that's the platform all the third worlders you sell dog coins to are on.

I've yet to hear any actual way that Signal could be compromised.
Is it a crypto backdoor? Pretty much every alternative uses the same algorithm so that would suck
Is it a side channel? That's more reasonable but where is the proof?

What is your alternative and in what way does it mitigate the same type of vulnerability?

Without a shred of proof or at least a technical explanation of a theoretical attack it's all merely schizophrenic conjecture.

So you are just a shill or a "i was merely pretending to be moronic" omega brain
If WhatsApp uses e2e by default, then yes, it's more secure than telegram. However the WhatsApp client is not open source so you can't verify that's the case.
The Signal client is open source and has been audited more regularly than any other app I've seen, see
            >https://community.signalusers.org/t/overview-of-third-party-security-audits/13243

That's not to say alternatives do not exist, let's go through them

            >Session
Signal but through a tor like network. If Signal has a compromise than this is very likely to also be, as it shares the same crypto and the client is a fork of the Signal client
            >Briar
I know the least about it but at a cursory glance it seems alright. They publish the technical details on how their shit works which is nice. If someone who knows more can speak to how they deal with metadata encryption that would be very helpful.
It still looks autistic to use, but w/e
            >Matrix
If Signal is compromised, then, lol. Lmao.
This was made by israelites, encrypts no metadata, and most of the user data ends up in the main homeserver or in the other main hosted servers that currently have no real self hosted solutions like the identity manager and integration manager.
The only mitigations (host everything yourself, disable federation) ruin the only actual use case of matrix (decentralized federation and bridging)
            >xmpp
As far as I can tell, it suffers from the same problems as matrix, with a bonus it's even harder to setup and easier to frick up.

Just self host whatever your real friends (not signal or discord "friends") are willing to use and keep your circle of friends below the Dunbar limit. All it takes is one moron to leak data. Weed out your morons rather than arguing about what platform is best.

    >The technology behind Signal, which operates as a nonprofit foundation, was initially funded, in part, through a $3 million grant from the government-sponsored Open Technology Fund (OTF), which was spun off from Radio Free Asia, originally established as an anti-Communist information service during the Cold War. OTF funded Signal to provide “encrypted mobile communication tools” to “Internet freedom defenders globally.”
