Because it's easier to sell ''medical'' masks.

The covid is not even close to being the deadliest virus in history and the masks aren't there to protect you from it, their purpose is to catch contaminated bodyfluids leaving your mouth and nose as you breath, thus reducing the risk of spreading it. If you would want to completely eliminate the risk of spreading it, you would have to distribute and make people wear full hazmat suits, which obviously isn't feasible. Distributing medical masks that already get already mass produced is much more feasible, but apparently getting people to wear them is still quite the challenge

      How do you define deadliest?

        Anonymous

Percentage of people who die after being infected

          Anonymous

Nah, because that would be diseases which kill their hosts too fast to spread like Ebola or take too long to kill you like HIV. I would say the deadliest would be the highest percentage or most humans killed. Then we're talking Black Plague at 100-200 million dead or 1/3 of Europe, the 1918 Spanish Flu with 100 million dead or the Plague of Justinian which killed 50% of Europe.

COVID killed more people than the Black Death. It is objectively the deadliest virus in history.

I know this is a troll, but for those who are curious. The mask merely reduced the chance of infection spread. Think of a ~20% buff. It's not perfect.

It worked btw. During COVID, we accidentally eradicated a strain of influenza due to distancing and masks.

they ran out of the kind of NIOSH-certified masks that actually worked, on day fricking one, and they didn't want everyone to panic so they bullshitted you and then couldn't stop lying without looking bad

that playbook was repeated at every crisis for the entire duration of the pandemic

    >The Deadliest Virus in History
I'm pretty sure that there's deadlier shit, but this is the PPE for Ebola. So, for the deadliest virus in history, they probably wear this or more.

It would be impractical to have everyone wear gas masks. Also, the masks don't really protect the wearer, but rather reduce transmission from wearer user. Since virus spread is exponential, even a small reduction in transmission can have a significant effect on spread.

the pesticide mask will mostly protect you from the virus if you have the right filters actually, but they're too cumbersome to wear all day and you just can't get enough of them fast enough to distribute to the entire population

They didn't even try. Certainly you remember right at the start -- like the first few days -- of the pandemic, the story was that everyone should mask. But then, for a month, the story turned into no one oughting to mask because medical professionals need the entire stock. Then it changed again, but importantly, they completely ignored what was the directive just a few weeks before. They didn't even try. It was literally 1984esque.

That is the standard of the establishment you can expect when push comes to shove during a supposed crisis.

Maybe - just maybe - there was a brief shortage due to overconsumption necessitating prioritisation in the distribution of resources that was then compensated by increased production?

ChatGPT 0.1 wrote this. Come on Ivan, put in a little more effort. You can only make that comment when the last word is an insult, homosexual.

(In the example I gave, you could pretend that "homosexual" doesn't refer to you but rather is meant as a signature, implying that I admitted to being a homosexual)

            >You can only make that comment when the last word is an insult
What ever gave you that idea? You posted an image, and beside it was the description "reddit post from a facecuck enthusiest [sic]". Speaks for itself, doesn't it? It is rather telling that you can only grasp an insult of at most one word, though.

Also, in the example given, it actually works less well, because you included proper punctuation for once and wrote "homosexual" on the same line. That rather precludes the funnier interpretation.

Imagine if 75% of people called in sick from work for a day; they're not going to die, but they feel like shit and they're spending the next day or two in bed.

How many people would die as a secondary consequence of that, do you think? Not from the disease, but from all the outward radiating consequences of a huge sudden disruption to everything without any planning or measures.
