So, I currently have a EVGA 2080 super which is doing great and I really have no issues doing anything with. But, I got $350 in visa gift cards recently as a promotion for something else and at the same time the 4080 super got shown off for only $999.

I typically never do upgrades this quickly so I figured I'd ask around to people who do. I could sell my 2080 super and get another $350 probably to spend put towards the 4080 super so it'd be like $300 for a new one which is like nothing.

Mind you, I typically have no issues running any games as is and I use a ultrawide monitor so I'm not gonna be 4k gaming. I do a lot of stuff in Blender though and that's really the main reason I'm thinking about doing the upgrade because honestly I have no fricking idea what else to spend the $350 on in my life other hobby wise and it expires in like 6 months.

Do they take visa gift cards? I'm down for that, except the peeing part.

That 350$ is better spent on a good chair/desk or peripherals (mouse, keyboard, monitor etc) You can have the best gpu on the planet but you'll get nothing out of it if your shitty chair gives you back pain.

Already have a good chair and other peripherals.

Throw it into a Roth IRA?

Look I know you're not responding because you think what I posted was silly but seriously consider it. Your country's social security system does not adjust for inflation and older you will thank you for adding to it.

Nah I'm just pretty sure you can't put visa gift cards into IRA's and shit.

you can do a lot of things with 350 dollars
why the frick would you spend an additional 600 to go from a 2080 to a 4080? are you clinically diagnosed moronic?

          I'm not spending $600, I'd sell my 2080S and spend like $300.

There is a lot of things I could buy. I'm totally open to suggestions to things maybe I haven't thought of. Especially tech wise.

Lot of 0 suggestions for someone trying to call someone else moronic.

you've not explained what your hobby is so we cant suggest you anything, maybe spend it some books, a video game or a date. or alternatively a prostitute if you cant get a date

This is the tech board so I'll take tech suggestions. My other hobbies I'm pretty set in stuff that's in the $350 range and there's not really stuff I can sell to bridge the gap to the other things. If you're truly interested in throwing out ideas though. I play hockey, I have a music studio, I DM D&D, and collect comics (worked at a comic shop for like 10 years) and pretty much everything else nerdy.

i dont know, think how you'd call an itoddler stupid for selling his iphone 14 pro to buy the 15 pro max and cover the rest of the cost with the 350$

Except I actually gain benefits for upgrading a GPU as I do 3D modeling? Much different than upgrading a phone which has pretty much been pointless for years.

So no opinions on upgrading to a 4080 super from a 2080 super for roughly $300? Worth it for modeling work and gaming or just wait a few more years?

Considering you're not that much into gaming I'd rather opt for more VRAM at this point, which a used 3090 has plenty of. A weak GPU can do some work as long as there is enough memory (and no demand for brand new technology).

I'm into gaming. I'm just not struggling with gaming at my setup since I don't use a 4k 240hz monitor or anything like that. I use a 49" ultrawide and game in 1080p in the middle typically although fullscreen on single player immersive games like BG3 and for a short disgusting minute starfield etc. Idk, raytracing and stuff is definitely important to keep up on I feel like but yeah more vram is dope as well.

    A better investment would be a gun. I recommend a Glock 19
