in the right of the panel the roman is forcing the celt to stop killing humans in a manner as they would a sacrificial animal in their heathen mystic rites, properly dispose of waste, legally define property and inheritance, and gain command of the land through improved agricultural practices, transportation, and water channeling infrastructure.

The Roman taboo against ritual sacrifice is like modern westerners b***hing about the Chinese eating dogs. Never mind that the Romans were annihilating people all over the place in an industrial scale with all kinds of brutality and even doing ritual sacrifice themselves with the Vestal virgins. Just don’t burn the hecking wickermanerinos.

Wasn't the ritual sacrifice also tied in with their legal system, like with the Germanics? With the Germanics their legal/political/caste system was woven to their religion, so you would have things like people being sacrificed for setting fire to a temple or POWs/cowards being hung for Odin, as per the Lex Frisonium.

It's so cool how Christian Rome raped and pillaged Europe for centuries, destroying any identifiable evidence of a culture or belief system, just to later claim the Celts were baby-sacrificing dirt eaters. Kinda like how "conservatives" do everything they can to sabotage public education and then claim it is "broken."
gtfoh with your BASE MODEL historical understanding and bad-faith arguments.

The "evidence" of celtic human sacrifice is limited to untrustworthy Roman propagandists repeating admitted hearsay, and an adult male bog body with bound hands and a cut throat. That's it. The rest is Christian pseudo-history. You know, for being the fricking Truth and the Light it sure can't tolerate any competition.

      >stop killing humans in a manner as they would a sacrificial animal
As other anons have said, there is little evidence outside of Roman texts that Gauls still practiced human sacrifice in Caesar's time.
      >properly dispose of waste
Gauls took great care of their hygiene, and had a form of soap to wash themselves with. Just because they didn't have sewers doesn't mean they were rolling around in shit.
      >legally define property and inheritance
Celts in Ireland and Wales had autistically detailed marriage, property and inheritance laws, and there's no reason to assume it wasn't the case in Gaul as well, especially since it had been in contact with the mediterranean world for centuries at that point. The druids just didn't write down the law, like with the rest of their lore.
      >gain command of the land through improved agricultural practices
Rome had nothing to teach Gauls farming-wise. Archeology has shown that they had extensive and productive agriculture, which is why Caesar could sustain his legions with ease during his campaigns. Gauls even had a sort of early harvesting machine, see pic. The idae of Gaul being covered in forest is a 19th century meme.
      >transportation
Gauls had a proper road network for trade, and later roman roads often followed an earlier layout. Again, Caesar had no difficulty marching his armies across large distances while on campaign.
      >water channeling infrastructure
Only valid point in your list. But then again, gaulish towns were not so densely populated that they needed to bring in water from far away.

This rome total war garbage needs to die.

The gauls at that time were the civilized orderly agricultural ones and rome was a backwater. Around the same time that they invaded gauls they also invaded greeks and there are greek poems about how it was rome a rustic shithole compared to greece.
Meanwhile the armor that both wear was gaulic in origin. When gauls own against romans they were semi naked barbarians and when romans own against gauls they more alike to the gaulic semi naked barbarians while the losing gauls were wearing the armor (that the romans stole after they own).

Also check caesar's writtings on how he was able to conquer the gauls because they were orderly and agricultural while he was scared shitless of germans because they were a bunch of forest Black folk.

Hence why Nietzsche said that civilization hasn't made us less cruel, it's only made cruelty more spiritual. This is, of course, not an objection for Nietzsche; violence is an inherent and foundational part of life.

The Celts did that too though? They had extensive trade networks, some of the best agricultural practices/technology, amazing metallurgy and highly valued local autonomy. They weren't savages living in the bushes they had pretty fat city states/hill forts with lots of smaller hamlets and villages dotting around them, not to dissimilar from the later medieval period.
