Socrates Mythicism

I'm a Socrates mythicist.

I don't believe Socrates ever existed.

In fact, we have no contemporary accounts from Socrates himself, only the accounts of his disciples at a later date *snorts*. How can we trust what they said about him? How do we know he even existed??
It's pretty absurd when you think about it. If you. The parallels between socrates and Chiron, Solon and Prometheus are pretty undeniable. It's basically irrefutable evidence the Socrates is an entirely mythical and made up figure.

Aristophanes wrote a play about him (the clouds) while Socrates was still alive. You haven't done shit research. Kys.

So he was was a fictionalized character in his own "lifetime"? Not sure how this helps you. Does a superman movie help people argue for the historicity of superman in 1000 years when capeshits drop the act and finally admit its basically a religion?

The whole thing is a "comedy of ideas" where the whole point is satirizing the beliefs of real people. If he wasn't a real man everyone knew in Athens, it would be pointless. have a nice day!

Kek. Have you read his dialogues? Is that how people actually talk? No one ever asks how their family is doing, how they're doing financially, or comments on the weather.

These are not real people having a real conversation.

They're invented didactic convos between literary inventions. No one talks like that or has ever talked like that. Its like one of those little example convos in a freshman textbook.

There may have been a man called socrates living in Athens, I'm sure there was, but he's not the charecter in platos books. He constructed that character from a variety of mythical tropes which I already mentioned, as well as some of the points he wanted to make. Socrates is only real in platos mind.

            It's like saying
            >Spider-Man was said to live in 2000's New York
            >Look contemporary movie scripts have him there

The point of the literary genre of "comedy of ideas" was to parody the thoughts of real people.

Not necessarily, only Socrates as he's the protagonist.
