well there are some good forks you could switch to like mullvad browser which is a firefox fork maintained by a profitable company rather than a neet. i bet every addon you use works well enough with it. i've been meaning to switch cause i tried fricking with so many firefox privacy flags that i broke some functionality on some websites.

I like edge on windows because firefox has a really fat title bar, but edge can't display multiple picture-in-picture videos at the same time (i'm not listening to both, i'm usually muting a stream because it's boring and watching a video I can pause when I want to watch the stream again).
But on windows edge and firefox has this weird issue where only the browser has glitchy black areas that pop in and out (probably related to nividia drivers). I tried changing the backend to opengl / etc but nothing worked. So I guess I am going to stick with linux for now (I want to use windows).

honestly there were a lot of things about edge I wanted to remove, but I was able to remove them by just googling how and entering a registry key.
The only thing is that I can't make new tabs be blank, but other than that it's pretty much exactly like how I use firefox.

          >The only thing is that I can't make new tabs be blank
that blows. i hated the firefox new tab page, it shows you moronic clickbait articles from pocket. even dumbass ones from years ago about feminism and shit.
you can't make it blank with shit like this?

I am fine with the default page, it gives me bing but I just don't want it to load more resources than neccessary (and I have removed the articles and etc from the default page). I have the feeling that even if you load google as the default page, it will probably load slower or something.

in firefox you can easily remove the "recommended articles", takes like two clicks.

      It's so counter-productive.

Because I use xfce linux mint (maybe cinnamon or something avoids this), I need to disable gsync because it lowers my refresh rate to like 60fps when I am moving the mouse around on my desktop, unlike windows (and there is no option to only enable gsync in fullscreen on linux).
Also I want to play around with driver level Nvidia NIS, it's probably shit but since I use a 1660 TI, maybe it might bump my FPS higher.
I don't know why but I like the font rendering in windows a little more.
Also there are a bunch of hentai RPG maker games that shit themselves in wine / proton (for example サキュバスワールド).
Plus I like using hwinfo to see temps.

KDE is the most sane DE and solves some of the problems you listed.

As for the RPG Maker games, if Proton is really not enough, just fire them up in a Windows VM and call it a day. It's not like you need performance for those games anyway.

          >I like the font rendering in windows a little more
I really hate the Windows font rendering now that I'm used to KDE.

Well, still, it would probably work just fine in a VM.

It had a problem with drawing japanese text.
I doubt it's the problem but it could be the fact proton doesn't have the japanese font.

That's probably the problem, I think most of the problems with fonts I had were resolved after installing cjkfonts from winetricks, you should try if that solves the problem

I booted it again to see if the error happens, but it didn't.
Actually I think this error might have been caused by using an old version of proton by accident (I think I fixed it at some point because I couldn't boot up some other game using proton).
Because I was using proton tricks, and I was using the appid I set up in steam.

I've been on Firefox for a while, then switch to Chromium for Like a decade and switch back to Firefox like 5 years ago. Never could I endure Opera.

Firefox is great for me so far, I switched back in the days to chromium for many quality of life stuffs (and Firefox became buggy as hell), but it's ok now and I do like Mozilla.

If something better come I'll switch, don't really care. Apart from the browser ? Mmh, probably my distro and all its config, it's a comfy Mint. Oh and Gmail.

My problem with the fox is memory leaks. It seems to be especially prevalent with youtube.
After three or four days of uptime firefox will be using ~85% cpu and ~97% memory (out of 32gb!) and just turn the whole computer into a stuttery unusable mess until I manage to get task manager open so I can euthanize the fox.

I don't get what people say sucks about firefox. Every time someone explains their thing that it sucks at, I just have to shrug because it's never happened to me. The only problems I ever have with it are when some horse semen guzzling webshit decides to gimp their site for non-chrometards, at which point I simply don't use the website (get fricked).
