But it's people that use models and disseminate their output

That's true and unarguable from a logical standpoint
Yet, advancements in AI, especially the generative models, are unprecedented and by some (me included) aren't to be considered on par with more "classical" software and I believe, at some point, we'll have to make laws that regulate AI

          >we'll have to make laws that regulate AI
People always say this without specifying what exactly they want to regulate. It's not whether someone is pro or anti regulations. There's good regulation, in my opinion, like making sure medial ai is safe and moronic over regulation that would, say ban certain os models.

Yes? Nobody uses presses anymore, people use printers now. It doesn't say 'freedom of text' or 'freedom of writing'. So by the same argument communication made through generative AI models is not protected, neither is printed or typed text.

            >Yes? Nobody uses presses anymore, people use printers now. It doesn't say 'freedom of text' or 'freedom of writing'. So by the same argument communication made through generative AI models is not protected, neither is printed or typed text.
The state of people in computer science
Literally cannot read the countries founding principles
Freedom of the press = freedom of a machine to print anything you want, as long as it does not incite violence or hurt or commercial damages (being insulted or boycotted is not a damage) onto individuals or collectives

The bill doesn't fricking care that an AI model wasn't involved in the process. You could end up sued just for taking someone's photo in public and sharing it on social media. And so could the platform, so theyd basically have to ban any photos not of yourself.

          >No, "prompt engineering" is not a skill.
          Maybe just writing prompts, yes.
But being able to effortlessly use advanced programs requires some sort of skills, be it AI or not.
I see your judgement is clouded by what you're exposed to online.
Yes the majority of people uses the simple (and more often than not, very shitty) AIs made available from corporations.
Bear in mind that the vast majoirty of outputs that you see are just the dumbed down versions of tools that are actually not so easy to use.
Pic related for example is a node-based SD software called ComfyUI.
It still requires prompt engineering but there's also a frickton more options to take into consideration (in the image for example it's doing multidiffusion, so different regions of the image are affected by different prompts so that you can have a refined result more easily).

Oh yeah also there's a negative prompt (what you don't want to have in the picture) but of course the free tools don't have that, hence contributing to shitty results.

The saddest part is all of CS are nerds. They didn't fricking take two seconds to listen to MGS and see that it is a funny 1984 joke and they literally implemented 1984. Going on the internet makes me cringe. The best option for normal people is to go make their own AI on their own internet and create a shadow US government that actually follows the constitution instead of making up technocratic delusions that it meant anything else and has to be rewritten to include their iphone chew toy

For clarification: the first/second/third-world paradigm was never meant as a marker of quality. America and its allies are all circularly defined as "first world," the (post-)Soviet bloc "second," and those unaligned "third." It holds as much weight as a non-taxonomic definition of either sex.

Laws effectively don't apply to glowies, so they have nothing to fear from things being banned. Rather the opposite; banning things gives them a monopoly on those things.

glowies are still operating within the bound of society. to believe them allmighty is to give them too much credit.
sure, they dont care for the laws and exploit them for their benefit. but laws are also an obstruction for them and too much rules in the hands of free agents bite them in the ass. ai censorship will mean its development will be either internal or outsourced to players powerful enough to disregard laws themselves without consequence, and these players aren't friends for threeletters. public approval of ai on the other side allows to not only develop ai in relative peace, but gives glowies all the opportunities to leech of free, law-abiding, innocent agents. then when ai's good enough will come the changes which will turn current globohomosexual into a joke.
or maybe i'm reading too much into this.

You should have built a park offset permanently for wildlife and people to go have sex in instead you want everyone in mouse utopia while you accumulate monopoly money and plastic houses. It will take an AI to shout and scream from a computer to people's faces that our government is not financially sound because all that matters is that your little secret of laundering money to protect the children services and "economically boosting " roads so it ends up in your pocket when the lollipop man buys your 500k pile of sticks you hired Guatemalans to build the 5th of so his children are kicked out at 18 and perpetuate the abuse cycle. lol good luck. i've said this before to a billion posts and to morons who are worried about AI getting banned or some shit. Good fricking luck. The moronic copyright argument is moronic. Even IF they somehow win someone will find a way to use copyrighted work without it affecting laws. I doubt they'll even have to anyway. If you ban the use of copyright to learn from then you'd have to just straight up ban humans from looking at the art itself. It's moronic af.
