Not a book, but if you are on the mood for communion-related content, you could watch osunsanmi's 'The Fourth Kind'

Arthur Machen’d the Transmutations, or Three Impostors stuck with me after reading. Especially after the ending.

There was a spooky short story "roll" image I saw earlier this year. I landed on a Roald Dahl story but I can't remember the name of it. Maybe someone saved the image because apparently I didn't.

      great book

Admittedly took my a sec to realize the object of horror in it, and it's usually not my cup of tea, but Buehlman is just so god damn good

House of Leaves is a good one but most people here are too pretentious to admit it.

Just read Karl Edward wagner’s in a lonely place. Lot of the stories are set in the south, which is novel to me, because most horror stories I read are somewhere set in northern states or Europe. I have not read the communion book but I do have a sequel of it that I bought from a thrift store.

Can anyone recommend a collection of classic campfire stories, maybe spooky American folk tales?

This cover has always evoked a visceral, deeply unsettled negative reaction in me, and I have no feelings about ayys one way or another. It's what finally inspired me to read the damn thing a few years ago. It's not very good though; just page after page of a man explaining what's very obviously a series of schizophrenic experiences he's been having (it goes much, MUCH beyond him simply seeing "aliens") written in credulous, workmanlike prose, while swearing he's not schizophrenic. It's ultimately tragic, but in that kind of insipid, mealy way that leaves you feeling a hint of disgust even as you feel pity.
