      It's appalling.
      >Every international product comes with the German plug
      >Have no ground
      >Must either get an adapter or a new cable to replace it
      >Many houses don't even have ground because the Danish standard had yet to be set in place

I have remodeled my non-German house with 100% Schuko sockets and never looked back. Worth it.

I genuinely don't understand why Americans don't do that.
They have 220V coming into the house so just install a couple of Schuko's next to each 110V outlet and slowly upgrade your appliances.

this is basically what we already do. You get 220's installed in your kitchen, laundry room, and wherever else you need a 220v outlet. Its generally a 3 or 4 prong outlet like pic rel

yes, a lot of the time. we don't go to bed with our shoes on.

Many UK plugs have flat backs, so they tend to sit there with the pins facing upward ready to sink into the tender flesh of the foot while you're walking in the dark trying to switch the light on.

UK plug is best electrically, but if you have to climb out the window down an extensioncord you can't beat schuko.

UK plug is the best for self defence or if you want to mangle your foot permanently.

Okay it makes sense because they have flat backs. But nowadays everything is smart. My apartment doesn't even have light switches anymore. I just control everything via app or speech.

Everyone talks about the foot mangling, but nobody ever mentions that the ground pin has a way to find your testicles and swing hard into them whenever you're tidying wires away.

Brits think its "brilliant" to add 9mm of insulation to the prongs but Schuko doesn't even need it, that's truly brilliant design.

British sockets are not recessed and can't be made recessed. Because of this, there is a real risk of a coin/paperclip/necklace falling between the prongs and either setting the house on fire or killing you.
Hence the need not only for insulating the prongs, but also for adding moronic mechanical shutters inside the socket.
Brits cope with this moronation by calling it "safe", but it's only safe in the sense if hanging yourself with a bulletproof vest on.

There are people who say they run around barefoot at home all day every day, but when it comes to maintenance, cooking, bathroom, etc. it becomes unhygienic and dangerous. That's why humans invented slippers.

of all the things to get weird and rah rah patriotic about, fricking electrical systems are the stupidest. like you're going to change it somehow, or you had a choice in electrical systems to begin with. in what kind of universe other than 'bwa hahahaha frick you!!!!!!!' does the shape of the wall end of a power plug matter at all

It matters on a technology board.

yes, but the point i'm making is there's no real rationale or logic behind 'electrical system A' and 'electrical system B' other than 'some dude decided it 80 years ago and so we do the same today because that's how standards work'. which is why different electrical systems exist, and broadcast systems, and some places drive on different sides of the road, and so on. they're not 'better' choices, just peer pressure from dead people
